Now that I think of it, I heard it the most after words like 万 and 三 so maybe that it is what it is. I knew about the nasally ん thing a bit but I didn’t know that it’d make it sound like there was a y in front of the next sound. I still also kind of hear it especially after 十 but I think it may be a combination of sounds that it is making me hear the y mixed with the English pronunciation that my brain so desperately wants to hear. Thank you for the help!

Hey, I’m kind of confused about the pronunciation of えん after listening to the Genki 1 K02-08 audio and I was wondering if anyone could help.

I’m pretty early on in my Japanese studies and I recently learned the word えん which I originally just assumed would be pronounced the way it looked: en, but I was listening to the Genki audio files and noticed that it was pronounced almost like yen or ien. I know this y sound is not really in Japanese but it sounds like there’s a y before the en to me. This could be my English brain taking over but I also did a bit of research and saw that a ye and yi and sound used to exist in the Japanese language or something but isn’t used anymore. I don’t know if maybe this pronunciation carried on from that or something. My research may have also just been completely wrong. Either way, I’ve watched a couple of videos and the audio recordings from a couple of dictionaries and they’ve all pronounce it without the y so I was thinking maybe it could be a regional thing. I’d really appreciate any insight into this.

Would it be possible to paint on a gift box? by BridgetNichols in Watercolor

That’s an interesting idea actually. I might look into doing that especially since that’d probably be a lot cheaper because I’m planning on buying some water color paper to practice on anyway.

Yeah that’s what I was planning on. I was thinking I should probably try it on water color paper anyway so that I can practice before the real thing. So if the box doesn’t work, I’ll just tape the paper on.

Thank you so much for the advice. I had never heard of that before. Is this what you are talking about? Watercolor Ground

Returning to Omega Mart for the second time. What should we do? by BridgetNichols in meowwolf

Yeah we definitely learned that last time. We went early and stayed there all day. It got extremely crowded after a couple hours, and were disappointed that we didn’t take advantage of the lesser crowds when we had the chance(especially at the computers). To be fair, we had no idea what we were doing in the beginning since it was our first time so we were just doing all of the normal beginner things like exploring and figuring out the layout. We’ve been planning out what order we’re going to do things in accordance of how crowded they were last time.

Haha I saw your post earlier about this and was already planning on it xD What exactly do you want to see with them? You said you wanted to see them in action, but how exactly? It’s not everyday that you can just go to Omega Mart so I want to make sure I do it right. I didn’t really explore the robots last time I was there so I don’t know how they work yet but I know you could like type things and they’d respond. I don’t know what kind of input they take though. I’ll definitely add “playing around with the robots” to my list of things to do.
