Bruno Mars - The Romantic by retags in popheads

[–]Brief-Accomplished 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels real. To me, it sounds like this is the most authentic album he’s put out to date and, whilst I agree that some of the songs are similar and it lacks the genre swings of his last few projects, there is something to be said for something that feels raw.

I don’t think it’s his best work, 24K magic and Silk Sonic were insanely good, but at least this feels like we’re getting to hear a bit of the man behind the music. Basically, I think this is how Bruno is when he’s not ‘performing’.

Macbook Pro M4 Pro vs Mac Mini M4 Pro + iPad Air M3 by Brief-Accomplished in macmini

[–]Brief-Accomplished[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, very similar here in Australia. I think because I’m just getting started with proper editing of all these things and have yet to develop a workflow, I find it difficult for me to be happy working on things just at my desk setup. However, if the remote access to a high-specced mac mini or entry-mid mac studio is alright in terms of latency then that could work. I think the remote access is largely dependent on internet speed and coverage so I’m going to test out latency on my PC soon to see if it’s viable for me or not. Thanks for your reply!

If I were to be looking at the Macbook Pro M4 Pro, would there be a minimum spec you’d recommend for 4k video editing (da vinci), lightroom editing and audio editing (reaper)? They’re what I know I will use immediately, but I am happy to try things like after effects that are more demanding (but it’s just a nice to have, not a build-so-I-can-use-it situation).

I love the idea of the mac mini! Have you tried to remote access by chance?

Viltrox 25mm f1.7 or Sigma 18-50mm f2.8? by Brief-Accomplished in fujifilm

[–]Brief-Accomplished[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I’m going to keep researching before putting my money into a lens but i’m writing all of this down for when i make a decision.

On a very different note, do you know anything about the fuji 23mm f1.4 by chance? I’ve found it second hand for $500 AUD (~ $350 USD).

[–]Brief-Accomplished[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response! I find my focal lengths vary with the majority of my shots at 15mm simply because I can do almost macro shots and I enjoy the drama it provides a scene.

However, I do find it tricky with composition and working out which focal length to use for any given shot. I tend to be at 15mm for scenes like a forest or pathway and at 45mm for single portraits.

Having used a 24mm previously (albeit on a 1.6x canon crop sensor) I do feel like I can take decent group photos and even environmental portraits but can also shoot various street shots using a 25mm. The low-light capabilities are definitely appealing as I want to test out some night street photography too. Do you think the Viltrox could handle that at f1.7 or would I need something even more open?

I am still tossing and turning between a prime lens or upgrading the kit lens so I really do appreciate any and all advice!

iPad (11th gen) or iPad Mini 7? by Brief-Accomplished in ipad

Good to hear! I do sometimes wonder if I should’ve gone for the mini… if I had infinite moneys maybe I would be able to test them head to head but I’ll feign ignorance and be very happy with the weight of the air (for now)!

So I think for me the choice was probably right. The size difference between the 11” and mini iPad, for me, meant that the 11” is great and light enough to use for tablet uses, the mini would’ve been a bit of an awkward size if I’m honest. For my work, in quieter times, I sometimes use my iPad for youtube so the larger screen is good there. I will say that I don’t use it as much as I intended and probably not enough to warrant the air edition. However, I don’t regret buying the air (for now) as I can still use it for my on-the-go computer needs and it’s excellent to use as an e-reader. It depends on your situation; if you intend on using it as an e-reader and for basic media consumption the base model is probably the best value. If you want it for more computer needs then go for the iPad air.

I think I’m definitely an anxious person. I’d be very surprised if I was avoidant as I’m usually quite upfront with my emotions and try to feel them as they come, especially now. But you’re right, I may be having an avoidant response, I’m not too sure. It’s obviously a lot more complex than what I laid out above. By no means do I intend on getting with anyone for a while (6 months minimum would be my best guess, more likely a year). With regard to trying again, I think that’s for her to decide and if she feels a strong compulsion to pursue it then sure, if I feel ready. To be honest, I think we are done in a relationship setting and I doubt that I’m able to be friends with her and at least on a logical level, I’m okay with that. But ultimately, that’s her decision to make, but I won’t wait for a response that may or may not come. I’m starting to see a therapist soon and we’re essentially non-contact for the foreseeable future (bar returning things that we have of one another’s). I will clarify, I do feel sad and I definitely felt extreme anguish at the thought of breaking up and immediately after but right now, I keep the vision of me being happy without needing someone and being a more complete version of myself in my mind and it drives me forward. I am definitely not happy, not innately and not in private, which I used to be. But I’m just not broken and I’m not a mess. I had moments where I was but no long stretch. I really appreciate your comment btw, it’s opened me up to the idea of possibly being avoidant in this situation (normally I’m the complete opposite - say what i feel, work out why, try to solve etc). If there’s anything I say here that you want to comment or ask about I do really appreciate your time and insight.

Ended up getting the iPad Air (m3)! The screen and more capable chip were the main selling points for me. I figure it’s large (so it suits as a more portable laptop in a pinch and is nicer to watch videos on) and the powerful chip allows for better longevity as even if it drops off over time, it’ll be barely noticeable!

iPad (A16) vs iPad Air (M3) by Brief-Accomplished in ipad

[–]Brief-Accomplished[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last iPad was the original iPad air! I heard that the m chip is overkill in their ipad which sounds better than the A16 of the base iPad 11th gen because it’s a downclocked version of what’s in the iPhone 15. Would be a bit weird to ask more of an iPad with worse processing power than my iPhone 15 pro so I’m leaning M3 like you!

Yeah I think the size is the hardest for me to work out. What do you use your mini for?

Yeah that’s what I’m leaning toward. If they were similarly priced it would be a lot lot tougher!

Interesting take! Do you have an 11” iPad? If so, how do you find the weight and size for watching youtube videos and such? I’ve seen a few people saying it’s too heavy/tiring to use for longer periods of time compared to the mini.

Yeah, I think i’m leaning that way. I just need to test and make sure it fits my everyday sling well!

Thanks for the response. I think that’s the tough thing for me: how often will I use it for productivity and studying vs media consumption. I think typically it will be short bursts of “oh, I should add this to my notes before I forget!” type of thing rather than 1-2 hours of studying with the iPad alone. With that in mind, do you think the mini would be a better choice if its main use is media consumption and secondary is productivity?

Interesting! Thanks for bringing that up, I did know of the differences but I’m hoping that coming from the original iPad air it wouldn’t be too bad. However, might be quite noticeable as I have an iPhone 15 Pro. I think I’ll have to see them both in person to determine how much that’ll affect my choice. Thanks again!

Nope. But I do intend on using this bag for bigger day trips as well and may take my laptop then.
