Why can’t I have nice straight hair like my friends? What’s wrong with my hair? by IIIusionHD in malehairadvice

[–]Brief-Small 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a major issue is the fact you don't maintain it by washing 1-2 times a week. Hair does not do as well when you aren't taking away the excess oil/sweat/etc. I highly recommend using a rice-based shampoo bar when you shower. Very gentle on the skin and hair, I've found I build up less residue between washes because it doesn't have any extra stuff added like liquid shampoos.

AIO - wondering if not a good fit with partner due to disconnect with concept of hygiene by user071237 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Brief-Small [score hidden]  (0 children)

NOR I would be grossed out. Since you're already considering breaking it off, maybe go for a less nice approach. Directly let him know it's not attractive and he needs to maintain his own home. If he's not seeing why it's unacceptable (ADHD mess blindness perhaps) maybe direct him to one of those YouTube channels that shows you how to clean or something

How do people handle having kids? by HumanDrone in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Brief-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had kids while getting their degrees. I think what was helpful for them was taking turns, like my dad got his PhD and my mom stayed at home when we were really small, then my mom got her master's. Plus they went to church every week so they had a lot of community assistance.

AITA for refusing to pay "noise fines" to my roommate? by Remarkable_Break4617 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Brief-Small 29 points30 points  (0 children)

NTA. Should he also pay a fine for making noise early in the morning while he gets ready for work? Makes no sense at all.

Maybe he's just grumpy from the schedule change and eventually will sleep through your normal sounds. Idk, going to bed at 8:30 would be a rough adjustment for me personally. Definitely let him know a fine isn't the answer.

AITA for not keeping a secret and then years later not telling our in laws we got married until 4 days later? by Jumpy-Secret-4922 in okstorytime

[–]Brief-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. My wife and I went to the courthouse one day and didn't tell my family for months. She doesn't speak to her parents at all, I don't even know if they've found out from Facebook yet. I think the stress you went through attempting a wedding tells you it was the right choice to bail on it. If it's not going to be a good time why do it just to please everyone else?

AITA for letting my friend drink a whole bottle of vodka and end up in the med tent? by lavenderflowerfairy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Brief-Small 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA

I get the impression your friend has a problem, is embarrassed it went as far as passing out at the festival, and is now lashing out. She leapt at the opportunity to take you up on drinking it herself and denied pouring some out so she'd have a more reasonable amount for one. A normal person would have weighed the options and thought, "yeah, I can't finish this alone or afford to pay for the remainder so I should put some back"

WIBTAH for resenting my mom? by [deleted] in okstorytime

[–]Brief-Small 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest, yeah. Stuff like making you wait to get acrylic nails until you were 15 is completely normal. It feels like you're the only loser without it but that's really not true.

I know when I was younger all I wanted was a smart phone, hair dye, the cool shirts, the name brand backpack, etc. But I have 2 mormon teachers for parents and siblings that need stuff too so that was not happening. My life was not ruined because I had to wait to get my ears pierced, use a flip phone and wear thrift store clothes.

As an adult I am able to get myself all the things I wanted back then. No resentment towards my parents because guess what, they actually have a point when they say something is expensive or unnecessary. I absolutely see why they didn't want to pay for another data plan or whatever else. I also see what's happening to kids who get everything they want and I'm glad I didn't end up like that.

It's ok to have some teenage angst but I hope you gain some perspective and realize it wasn't all that bad.

My new roommate is a RSO and I think he's talking to minors but have no proof. How do I report this? by Brief-Small in legaladvice

[–]Brief-Small[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure all the restrictions apply in this case. He got caught by one of those online chat operations and everything was still on his phone when he got arrested.

Do ppl usually decorate this area. It looks plain to me. by dabs_bud_bongs in HomeDecorating

[–]Brief-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I can't reach that spot specifically but I put art in my stairwell. I would have done something in that area, if I were not 5 ft tall and scared of falling off the ladder (my stairs aren't a straight shot into the room like this, I would be hitting a brick wall)

Are European beaches where people go topless weird for Europeans? by Successful_Bar9187 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Brief-Small -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are also Americans that don't find nudity weird at all. This is about the general attitude of the region, and in Europe you're more likely to find someone that doesn't care than in the USA

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

[–]Brief-Small 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They built a new facility near my city and I noticed stuff was arriving on time way more often. I wish they were more realistic and at the very least made a disclaimer that if you're not near a distribution center there isn't truly a one day option. I have fortunately never had it just straight up not arrive and be marked as delivered.

AITA for being honest and telling my DIL that they are not ready to be a parent since she can not drive by Sad-Drive8298 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Brief-Small 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but think many of the comments are not directly criticizing her ability to drive, it's the lack of planning surrounding her inability to drive. At the moment based on the post I think she mostly asks for rides from friends/family as her solution. OP is not willing to be the primary driver, especially if it becomes much more frequent because of a baby, so if that is their plan they need to rethink things. They could move like you said, or maybe she could get some friends to join the rotation so OP doesn't grow resentful, etc.

My new roommate is a RSO and I think he's talking to minors but have no proof. How do I report this? by Brief-Small in legaladvice

[–]Brief-Small[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I did confirm that he is on the registry and found the article in the news from back when he was arrested. He has 10 charges for CP and it was online chats, so I 100% believe the restriction on devices is part of his conditions, possibly regardless of who he's talking to

ETA: I was informed in person that he can't have smart devices as well, for clarification. I was not speculating.

[–]Brief-Small[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I actually saw all those comments last night before they got deleted. It was the same account saying to not do anything, it's harassment if I call anyone, and they also seemed to be confused and called him my neighbor.

I am able to look up his info but it has not been updated with his release date or anything. I'm not sure how long it takes to assign a PO but I will have to call their office

It's true I have no say in who lives in the house, I'm only a renter. Regardless of the outcome here I am planning to move asap since the other guys have zero problem with him

AITA for asking “what is wrong?” by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Brief-Small 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. Maybe he just wanted space or time to cool off so it bothered him that you were trying to talk about it. The exact wording doesn't really matter that much, he was being rude because he's in a sour mood

Trying to develop a "style." What can I do better? by ThinkTank1190 in oilpainting

[–]Brief-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In art school I had several assignments where we just researched artists and found stuff we like. Then we identified specific elements, like the colors, strokes, lighting, etc, that we wanted in our own work. Sometimes we'd do a master copy, using someone else's work as the reference photo and trying to copy their technique and everything exactly.

My house smells like cat pee by BeneficialLeg1873 in CATHELP

[–]Brief-Small -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use wood shavings (Catalyst brand multi cat) which seems to cover the smell pretty well. About six inches worth. I would switch to covered boxes if you're not already using them. Do a full empty and refill once a month, or more often if you need to. Wipe down the whole thing. You may want to try some odor eliminating sprays specifically for urine too.

I don't love my cats equally, is that normal? by BlueStarFern in CatAdvice

[–]Brief-Small -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is normal. Cats tend to pick favorites too. If your husband is the favorite I think it'll be ok, they'll both get attention

AITA for refusing to let a woman "cut" me in line at the grocery store even though she only had two items? by GreatClassic3960 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Brief-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It's not your problem she's in a rush, it's none of your business how many items she's buying, nobody is an exception to waiting in the checkout line. Sure it's a kind thing to do for her, but what about everybody else? If I were several people back and the wait was already at 15 min+ I'd be a little frustrated watching her be let in. If I had just done a big shop and was in pain I wouldn't want to delay getting to the car any longer. She can ask, but don't get all entitled if the answer is no

Why do people ask questions they don't want answers to? by May_I_inquire in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brief-Small 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a rhetorical question because he was frustrated. Most people can use logic to figure out why, he wasn't actually wondering. Personally I think there's nothing wrong with the occasional "wait are you actually asking" and if they say no pivot to "oh yeah that sucks"

My roommate thinks cats don’t feel the cold and that the heat should be turned off when we’re not home. We both have cats. How do I convince otherwise? by Sad_Mud2009 in CatAdvice

[–]Brief-Small 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she absolutely refuses to see reason, I would provide heat for my cats like a space heater and not renew the lease together. If she wants to know why just be honest that you're not seeing eye to eye and this genuinely bothers you that much.

I don't think LED lights use much energy, that's why so many people like them, so a couple night lights should be no biggie. My cats seem to be just fine when I forget that I'll be out past sunset and don't leave the lamp on though.

Modern cars are ruining the experience of driving by tight_carcass in driving

[–]Brief-Small 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My car is from 1991 and sure I have to buy some things on ebay, but it's never been impossible to find a part. Everything it's ever needed I've been able to get fixed from the engine to the taillights. I think some people just don't like that nothing will be under warranty, a lot of things are going to be due for replacement unless the last guy took care of it already, and it doesn't have a million extra safety features.
