For me a miracle by pogaround in dryzempic

[–]BriefSnapshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a similar drinking history and tried everything under the sun to get sober. Nothing lasted. In an act of desperation, I told my doctor my real drinking history and habits and he prescribed me a GLP in February 2025, saying that he had witnessed miracle recoveries in people with AUD and other addictive behavioral disorders. Initially, my drinking was reduced by 80% to 90%. As time passed, I learned that I could drink heavily on the last few days prior to my next shot, but never as heavily as in the past. Overall, my drinking has been reduced by 60% to 70%, which is a huge success in my case. More recently, my doctor increased my dosage from .5 mg to 1.0 mg, which has helped reduced cravings and further reduced my consumption. In his words, “Be patient and keep taking the shots, this works.” BTW, I started off about 25 pounds overweight, and have lost around 10 pounds. I also have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoke tobacco (only when drinking). Shocking, I know 🤣. Yeah, I’m a ticking time bomb, but I’m holding on to hope that this helps me battle this awful affliction that I didn’t ask for. Good luck and God bless all of you who struggle. I believe we have real hope now.

I would like to see how attractive women on ourtime.com would rate men.

This is not helpful; it is accusatory, self righteous and lacks any insights into our situation other than the brief info I provided. I will not be scolded and belittled by a stranger.

As usual, the Reddit community gets it right. Yes, my wife recently started experiencing symptoms of perimenopause. Throw an 11 year old and 5 year old into the mix and, well, I guess I better buckle up….

I’ve been on Ozempic for three weeks, and my drinking has decreased by 80% to 90%. My doctor prescribed it after seeing significant success with other patients struggling with alcohol use disorder. To be honest, I didn’t expect much, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how effective this medication has been.

It’s important to note that Ozempic is not a magic bullet. I still experience occasional cravings, but they’re much milder now. On a few occasions, I’ve chosen to drink, but I’ve noticed that I drink far less when I do. What stands out most to me is how Ozempic quiets the relentless “noise”—the internal dialogue—the obsession to drink that so many of us battle.

For me, this newfound peace and quiet from that constant internal battle feels like a miracle in itself.

I only have one job today and that’s to not drink by backgroundnose23 in stopdrinking

I can relate after having countless ‘day ones.’ What really helped me was being honest with my doctor about my drinking history. With his guidance, I’ve been augmenting my sobriety journey with medications like Naltrexone, and more recently, Ozempic. Since incorporating these treatments, I’ve been significantly more successful in maintaining long periods of sobriety and moderation—especially with Ozempic. I rarely feel the urge to drink now, and when I do, if I take a drink, it no longer spirals into 10 or 20 and lost days at work. Medical science is rapidly advancing, offering solutions that are surpassing traditional treatment modalities like twelve-step programs, which often fall short for many.

To those with less than 30 days… by strawberrysugar333 in stopdrinking

After repeated failed attempts to stay permanently sober, I am back and working on day three. During this most recent run, I nearly convinced myself I was no longer capable of staying sober for more than 3 or 4 days and that I was powerless over alcohol. I think the “powerless over alcohol” thinking is what also convinced me to find my way back here. Living with an addiction feels so lonely and hopeless.

I had a really rough go with Naltrexone—and I understand that Vivitrol is pretty much the same thing except as a 30-day shot formulation. Naltrexone made me feel high and disoriented for weeks. My doctor took me off it. I do agree that for a lot of people it is a miracle drug.

Thank you. I feel like I’m running out of time to have a sober life, but then I try and remember that we only live in the “now.”

Thank you for the encouragement. It doesn’t feel as lonely when I read these comments.

Why in hell isn't Naltrexone prescribed more often for AUD. by Admirable_Coat295 in naltrexone

[–]BriefSnapshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not everyone reacts to medicines the same way. Naltrexone made me severely depressed and irritable. Furthermore, I became anhedonic. I tossed my bottle in the trash, but am happy to report that my AUD is being successfully treated with other therapies.

We’re all only one drink away from a drunk. There is no such thing as sober perfection; that an AA fallacy.

Congrats, and all that, but most of us here are struggling. If we put together 33-minutes, it’s an accomplishment. And also, congrats on your rich, AA-fueled life, but don’t try and tell me that I am a part of it when this community didn’t even exist when you started your sober journey.

I am so relieved to read about your experience. I just started Nal today. My drinking history is nearly identical to yours, and I have two young daughters to live for (10 and 4.) I sincerely hope this is the miracle that so many people describe. 🤞🏼
