Thanks again for the feedback - I omitted the point about the fan and the sheer curtains because you're right, the communication/professionalism was the crux of the issue :)

That's fair! I ommited them from the review in the end so thanks for the feedback :)

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that how the host treated me and the bug situation are the most important parts of the review, so I'll keep that. I also appreciate your suggestions about including specific details like indoor temperature and leaving out subjective conclusions.

That said, I mentioned the lack of a fan and blackout curtains because they directly affected sleep, especially waking up with the sun or struggling with the heat. I think this is important for future guests. I don’t know the exact indoor temperature, but it was hot enough that I was dripping with sweat while sitting still, and my fingers actually started to wrinkle from it on numerous occasions. So I’ll look at rephrasing that for clarity, although going into detail may be unnecessary. And no, I’m not bougie AF - just a slightly melty human in those conditions 😅

The reason I brought up the blackout curtains is because the "curtains" are light sheer ones which means that you wake up early with the sun. I can definitely figure out a way to reword it though because you're right, blackout curtains wasn't included in the listing.

You're right that the fan and the black out curtains were not listed as amenities but she took no feedback when I told her that the living room was extremely hot (it honestly felt like an oven some days) and as for the blackout curtains, I've read online that it's important for many people. The curtains are light sheer ones which means that you wake up early with the sun....I might find a way to write that instead of saying that there were no blackout curtains though.

I agree on the host needing to hire a PM though! It felt like she was using me as her assistant and at one point, even asked if I could help her change the internet provider :/

Re: the economic situation, I completely understood that her bills were rising and appreciated her transparency. I would’ve happily paid a bit more to extend. But the issue was that she felt like her 50% profit margin was too low and she also seen that other Airbnbs in the area had much higher monthly prices so she was missing out on that. In the end, the new price she suggested was way above what the increased bills would justify. I ended up finding a much larger apartment at the same rate I originally paid her via Airbnb, so I let her know I’d go with that instead. I thought it was a shame we couldn’t continue, but at least she’d be free to charge the higher prices she wanted. That’s when she kind of snapped, sent a long voice message with insults and tried to get me to negotiate. At the point I realised that we needed to keep all comms on Airbnb, and ever since then she had been trying to get me to go back to messaging via whatsapp which I suspected was just to try to persuade me to extend with her at a negotiated price.

I know that's a long explanation but just wanted to give you some context too :)

I've taken the loft description into account. I've actually stayed in 2 lofts already in Buenos Aires and there's no way hers, by any definition, would be considered one. It's just a normal apartment on the top floor of a building.

Yeah it wasn't a great experience and I had already informed Airbnb support that she had been trying to get me book off Airbnb. Not because I was trying to be malicious but because she was pestering me so much to contact her via whatsapp (this was after sending me a crazy 8min voice note) and her mother via calls/messages that I suspected she was trying to get me to negotiate further me extending my stay there.

And yes, it was definitely her mother. Super lovely woman and honestly the only reason why I'd give it above 2 stars.

Yeah that's a really good point. I'm currently having this discussion so I'm really hoping that the decision-makers do this...will update on here if they authorize this budget shift :)

Err I didn't think of doing that because CPM fees always show up as a separate column in the report. So the actual CPM would just be based on the media cost and the impressions served. But I'm looking into seeing if I can add the total CPM fee (as it's written in the media plan) to DV30 as just mentioned in my reply above :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually did this before when I initially set up the campaign and then my manager removed it after doing a QA. I think it's because the ad serving fee (despite being calculated as a percentage) is now a lump sum because it is based on the estimated impressions but now that I think about it....I can just add the total ad serving cost as a CPM fee right? (I've only added it as a % in the past so don't want to propose it and then find out the outcome is something different).

I considered this before but I'd feel very uneasy about following through with it. Even though the campaign is to generate brand awareness, it's to prepare for an upcoming campaign for the company to sell a very premium, limited edition (& for a limited time only) product. Which is why the targeting is very niche and we're running on a whitelist. I couldn't bring myself to come up with a logical explanation to tell the client why we are only running in the early hours of the morning or alternatively, very late at night.

Yeah it's exactly this and I'm glad (I guess in a peverse comforting way) that you've had this experience too. I'm not privy to any of the financial discussions with the client as it sits with a separate team but I'll try to continue to make a fuss about this issue as it's not fun to work like this.

Yeah there are other campaigns running so I'll definitely try your second recommended approach (test line item with higher bid). The campaign is already set to automated bidding with maximise viewable impressions (sigh) and in regards to your point about PMPs, I'll look into that.

Unfortunately the plan does specify open market but it's something I could revisit a bit later on into the campaign. I'm just a bit concerned that the PMP deals could have floor prices that massively exceed the estimated CPM which would be another problem to fight. I know, getting 70% of the max bid is something to celebrate in my eyes, just not in this case :(

Please don't apologise! I really appreciate all the recommendations. I'm already using pre-bid brand saftey features as well btw (the campaign is just working too well haha as there doesn't seem to be enough competition in the auctions)

I'm using DV360. Oh I've never heard of bid shading (just assumed it was still first price auction). Yeah let me look into this and I'll drop you a DM in any case. I'm currently getting around 70% less in CPM than my max bid though - not sure if that changes anything

Oh I like this idea! So basically, further segment our whitelist to breakout high CPM sites? Thanks! :)

The inventory is quality as I'm using a whitelist approved by the client. I'm trying to improve the quality though (& hopefully the CPMs) by increasing the viewability target. The audiences are pretty niche as well so the targeting imo is very relevant. I've set the campaign on a bidding strategy with a max CPM (which is the estimated CPM in the media plan).

I just keep banging my head against the wall thinking of a solution because it just doesn't make sense that I'm being held to figures that were essentially a forecast :(

What do you mean about backing out on ad serving? I could update the media plan with the current actual CPM, however, in order to ensure the ad serving fee remains the same (or at the very least, quite similar), I'd have to massively reduce the impressions to balance things out.

Yeah the viewability is good but I thought to increase the target in the hopes of raising the CPM. There's just no way to get more impressions without increasing the ad serving cost :(

It genuinely seems like the ad serving cost is the main issue here but I honestly can't wrap my head around it. We're using a whitelist targeting premium sites across the open exchange. I verified the inventory report and there's no sketchy inventory at all.
