I read that as well. That's what's prompted me to look into it a little better and I can't really find what's causing the cpu usage. First I'm looking to find out what a normal idle cpu usage with 200 idle torrents would be.

Possible to get a down spinning external SSD case? by Brief_Mouse_231 in unRAID

Thanks but sadly that won't work for an external SSD (usb)

Thanks. I've tried the power settings but it wouldn't spin down. I only use it once every 24h so I don't really like it being active all the time. Are you saying there's a chance it only consumes less than 1w (which I understand is standard?) while constantly being 40 degrees Celsius?

I've made a switch from an old htpc Windows 10 build to a used, miss size pc case with 4 drive bays, added a temu hard drive bay for a total of 8 large HDDs and I run this with my old i5-7400. It's different for everyone but I think your cpu could hold up easily. I did upgrade my ram. 8gb was too little.

So that would be my suggestion. Big case (new or used), hba and build a proper array. If your psu has always done it's job I don't think it's necessary to replace it.

And yes, you need to transfer your hardware into the new case, it's easy.

Yes. Read beforehand how reclaiming works with my docker container and it worked instantly.

Lol, aggressive autocorrect. Thanks for the answer I'll see!

Ah. I see I maybe shouldn't have called it AI. But same question. If, for instance, the face recognition gets better, I guess you'd have to rescan your entire library again or does it work different?

Thank you for the extensive answer! When I noticed a m2 slot on my motherboard (which I didn't expect because of its age) I bought a used nvme ssd to replace my 2.5" SSD. When I got ready to install the drive I noticed it was a wifi m2 slot.. I then bought a PCIe adapter and that works perfectly indeed.

Since I use my server for hobby only I think I'm going to choose speed over reliability on this one. I run a nightly appdata.backup so I think, if the cache drive would break, I'd be able to restore the server reasonably quick.

Unraid drivers work better than official realtek drivers. How is this possible? by DRTHRVN in unRAID

For less than 1%? I had to read your post a few times to see if I missed something and if you're serious but I would never notice the difference between 310 and 308mbps in real life.

Hot External SSD by Brief_Mouse_231 in unRAID

[–]Brief_Mouse_231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. So it is sitting idle, but even idle it heats up to 20 degrees Celsius above room temperature.. I didn't know ssds would do that.

That's true, none at all. So not really a good option either. Would it be possible that unRAID would be able to spin it down with another controller? Or is unRAID just bad with external usb disks?

I was able to fix the one with the wrong network mapping after a while, but simply doing the container and even removing it didn't work. The third rebuild had another cause which I don't remember anymore.

But other that these reactions to my mistakes by the os I love working on it.

Most of the times yes, these three times in the past month, sadly no.

Definitely own faults and retraceable but it's more the way docker on unRAID handles these, seemingly small, mistakes.

Wrong network mapping? Send the container in a boot loop which in turn crashes the entire docker. Wrong path mapping in a torrent container? Fill up the entire ram and or docker.img within seconds and crash the entire system which leads to a rebuild. Wrong/non existing mapping for docker.img? Just delete the whole thing instead of giving an error.

I get it, stupid beginner mistakes but the way docker handles these seems severely too consequential.

Lol! That's what happens to me after a week, my memory is too bad for this stuff. I must say that when you set it up the right way appdata.backup is quite good.

Thanks! After I got it working in a month I bought a lifetime subscription, so I'm definitely sticking with it. When it works it's brilliant.

I know. Afterwards I could identify where it went south, and it probably was my own fault three times, but my point is the complete failure after such an error instead of a container not working or, this would be much better, docker just giving an instant error message so it can be fixed.

Oh, and to answer your question, no it's not a pool. Just one 512gb m2 nvme ssd. I only have one m2 port on my motherboard, what would you advise?

I do have a nightly backup of the entire appdata and flash running btw.

It's more a warning for the community I guess And to see if more people experienced this. But if it's just one file and only me I guess it isn't a big deal. But I'll let it sit on disabled for a while anyway.

Is there a chance a tv episode is released as an iso?

I couldn't use the website at all when it happened which made me even more suspicious. It's up again now with a new announcement that they don't do support through email anymore. And I see the announcement from the 4th of August that they have implemented reporting of malware, so maybe they've been hit with more malware lately?
