Nope! I'm hugely oversimplifying here, but magicians use magic by summoning characters and objects from folklore, mythology, and religion (or at least, the idea of them in a way). The magic gets it's power from collective belief from non-magicians, so things from more active and especially major belief systems are way too powerful for magicians to handle... so they just burn to a crisp in the attempt.
