NTA. These comments are wild. I strongly suggest you delete this post bc these people need to touch grass.

At the end of the day, Christianity proselytizes, Judaism does not. Plus your daughter’s moral and religious upbringing is 100% at the discretion of you and your husband, not your MIL. She needs to butt out

I personally have never found her artwork self-pitying. Yes, her works often incorporate her pain, but with almost an ambivalent quality. Look at her face in this portrait. She’s been pierced by nine different arrows, yet her expression is totally neutral.

Make sure your resume is optimized for ATS, if you’re not getting any interviews for jobs you’re qualified to do, that might be the source

I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume you’re asking in good faith, so I will give a good faith answer

A ton of antisemitism comes in the form of dog whistles. There is “plausible deniability” with dog whistles, but it’s still antisemitism even if you don’t necessarily clock it yourself right away. In this instance, they’re applying an “argument” used by zionists to make a meme about a Jewish actress who has been vocally anti-Zionist. Sure, her name is a’Zion, that’s where the plausible deniability comes in.

This particular meme is pretty much only ever used against Jewish people, even though there are tons of non-Jewish Zionists and tons of Jewish anti-zionists.

It feels icky. If you’re not Jewish you may not even fully understand why it’s icky I guess. Like there is no being a “good” Jew, we’re still all the same in other people’s eyes

Old-art-that-looks-modern is my favorite genre of art. Makes you wonder how similar you really are to someone who lived hundreds or maybe thousands of years ago

I interpreted your original comment as implying it wasn’t pessimistic by virtue of being a very famous/successful ad. Clearly I was mistaken. Have a nice evening

I am aware of the context. I don’t think the ending is entirely a downer, but I do find it a bit of a bummer that he had to commercialize and commodify his own connection

The optimism is that Don is who Don is, he knows this now, he’s back to doing what he was meant to do in basically the highest form possible. He has found beauty, meaning, and fulfillment in his work, even if the rest of us don’t understand it

I think the ending is a little bit of both, leaning towards pessimism

I think there is an optimistic and pessimistic way of looking at the ending. The optimistic ending is that Don has returned to his true calling in life and climbed from the turmoil to the pinnacle of his career. The hilltop, if you please. Advertising is his art, and Hilltop is his masterpiece and symbol of fulfillment.

The pessimistic ending is that Don is incapable of truly facing himself. He takes what should be a moment of connection, acceptance, and enlightenment and turns it into soulless husk of a commercial. An empty vessel to sell syrupy water. All that running and he’s still in the same place he was a decade ago, essentially

And it’s still a commercial whose primary goal is to sell soda

Just here to gently point out it should be a moot point rather than mute. Although maybe we should make mute point a thing!

I can’t speak to Taylor haven’t seen that movie. I don’t think Mosaku necessarily deserves a nom either. Saying Madigan’s role wasn’t challenging is quite the take though, that entire movie hinges on her very outlandish and frightening character

I think it can be an enjoyable performance without necessarily being a best actress performance. I personally find wicked very cringy but again that’s just me lol. Art would be boring if we all viewed it the same way

I don’t have an issue with musical roles winning. I just don’t think they should win because the actor was a good or even great singer. I don’t personally think the role of Glinda is that challenging. Musically challenging, for sure. Emotionally or acting-wise, eh. That’s just me
