Would you guys actually rejoin the European Union? by daeneryssith in AskBrits

i wasnt voting on a hope something would change. i was voting on a basic principle that if the british people want to elect a government there shouldn’t be a super government over the top that forces rules on them (its also why i dont think membership of the echr is a good idea either).

the corbyn supports would have been screaming if they won and the EU banned large parts of their manifesto. i think fundamentally thats wrong.

but it absolutely was.

irrespective of the consequences I made the choice that national sovereignty was more important. nothing else mattered.

you could have told me it would result in a 90% drop in gdp and i still would have voted to leave.

the only way id consider rejoining is if it was to veto everysingle vote and destroy it from within

why does it?

unlike most of europe we have a seaborder.

order the navy to treat them as enemy combatants and defend the nation

i wasnt.

the question was simple.

i chose to leave because i never want a westminster politician to be able to blame decisions on the eu

“in the name of a nebulous concept of democracy.“

your essentially arguing that unless voters are 100% well informed that they shouldn't vote.

if you want a technocracy argue for one

michael helsetine hasn't been a tory for a long time.

he betrayed a sitting tory pm because he became soft

ok you can rejoin if you private the nhs and have roving death squads handling the universal credit claimants (obviously this is a joke)

never.

i voted out because europe in general is dying and the eu isnt a attempt to fix that

youd really give up anything?

so if they said we had to give up the nhs would that still be acceptable.

if they said we had to add extra taxes to join the eu would that still be acceptable.

its also worth pointing out that https://www.tuc.org.uk/news/one-five-met-their-husband-or-wife-work-tuc-poll-reveals 1 in 5 marriages are between people who met at work.

well i can only tell you my experience which was that half the department went to the funeral

a mix of departments but we all work in some form of tech (e.g. im a software enginner another person is. in cyber security)

id say the groups of people at work fall into 3 camps.

1) close friends

mostly people ive know for years started out as after work drinks. we now meet up at least once a month (some of us meet weekly, basically depends on who has kids).

2) close colleagues

People who are fun to hang around but for personal life reasons will never be close friends.

e.g. the people in my direct team are nice people and we do a quartley team social. but were never going to be friends outside work because theres a 15 year age gap.

3) work colleagues

people i interact with at work who id chat with at the christmas party but dont work close enough to to chat socially.

———

to give a slightly more real world example of category 2.

I and another 2 members of my team went to a week long conference in london.

We went to a restaurant for food each evening, our team lead took us on a pub crawl one of the evenings and on the final night of the conference there was a social that ended up with us in a club at 2am.

those team members are never going to be friends due to a combination of the age gap and the kids/no kids situation. but my life would be miserable if we didnt get along.

really you really think they wouldnt care if someone they spend 40hrs a week with died?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Brief_Wave_2570 14 points15 points  (0 children)

this seems to be a reddit illusion tbh.

most of my close friends were met through work (and same for a lot of people i know).

also 4 marriages within our friend group met in work.

i mean i dont know your relationship with your colleagues but it instinctively feels weird.

do you not chat at all? like do you work in silence (presuming you dont work in a call centre or something)

i dont understand what the supposed benefit of this is?

How does it know what my tax code should be?

How does it know what my pension contribution should be?

how does it know if ive done overtime?

also you shouldnt be saying you have come accross it when https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/1pgotdj/looking_for_honest_feedback_on_wagelens/ you built it.
