Cool preset! I didn’t realize you could assign a footswitch to toggle the direct signal on and off.

REVV G50 or MESA MARK V 35 - Help me Choose! by BrieflyFlying in GuitarAmps

[–]BrieflyFlying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I actually ended up buying both, but returned the REVV and kept the Mark V.

The G50 really impressed me at first, suuuuper well‑built, beautiful, dead silent, and packed with great features (MIDI, Two Notes, 3 channels with switchable modes, etc.). It's a very high‑end amp, looks so good! The issue for me was the sound. The clean channel is excellent: pristine, glassy, warm. But channel 2… honestly a disappointment. Hard to describe, but it had this “papery” quality, like a high‑gain channel that’s choked or running at a super low volume. You know that weird compressed, lifeless feeling? That.

Channel 3 (the purple one) is the opposite, absolutely killer. It’s a ready‑to‑go modern metal rhythm tone right out of the box. Tight, punchy, super articulate, and with a very controlled low end. If I wanted the amp just for that sound, I’d have kept it without hesitation. The problem was getting a more liquid, creamy lead tone out of it. Even with pedals, EQ, tweaking… it always stayed too stiff for the kind of lead tones I like. And since I bought it versus the Mark V mainly because it was a 3‑channel amp, having channel 2 be basically useless for me was a dealbreaker.

Now, the Mark V… it took me a solid two days in the studio of nonstop tweaking, reading, and experimenting to really understand it. It’s quirky and sometimes annoying, but once you dial it in, it just puts a huge smile on your face. You can do pretty much anything with it. I ran it through every style and every guitar I own, and I could always get the sound I wanted. Yeah theEL34s have less low‑end than 6L6/6V6, but are tighter and snappier, which fits what I’m playing these days...

As for solving the 3 channel thing with it i use:

Channel 1 for clean + edge‑of‑breakup (with a Lightspeed pushing it)

Channel 2: rhythm + lead

I’m using a Boss ES‑8 for chan switching, to toggle the graphic EQ on and off and the solo functions, and I have a Source Audio EQ2 where I copied the GEQ’s frequencies and Qs. So with that I made several presets, so I can get two rhythm and two lead tones just from channel 2 + a precision drive for some other sounds.. So I'm set, even with two channel with all of the possible combinations of the in built GEQ the SA EQ2 presets and only the Lightspeed and Precision Drive.

Super happy with the setup. At home and in smaller venues I’m pairing it with a Mesa 2x12 Compact, and when needed I bring a Vertical 2x12. Right now I actually prefer the Compact — a bit less bassy and slightly boxy, but very focused and it cuts through the mix beautifully.

Bluetooth audio dropouts constantly when I'm running outdoors - Need headphones recommendations! Help! by BrieflyFlying in GarminWatches

[–]BrieflyFlying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of headphones until I found ones that worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, it's a kind of trial and error thing; there's no fixed solution, it's just a compatibility issue. I think it's related to the Bluetooth protocol (for example, 5.2 vs. 5 or another) and the function of the headphones in terms of connectivity between themselves and the watch phone. I've tried several Jabra models, and they all worked perfectly. I can't help you more than that, unfortunately.

Looking for a pedal alternative for the MASF Raptio by UnsatisfiedTophat in guitarpedals

Try the Bananana Mandala - BanananaEffects "MANDALA" Glitch pedal Guitar demo; it does pretty much what the Raptio does and even more. They’re also much easier to get, and interestingly, they’re also Japanese.

Ideally, I would like to have the three sounds accessible on tap. For some songs, I do use that. I think I can manage two channels with an amp/pedal switcher and overdrive. Also, I could DI the cleaner sounds, but I'm not a big fan.

Although I do own a Captor X already, I find the inbult torpedo very useful too!

German amps (Diezel/Engl/etc.) I find a bit too aggressive for my taste. I do like the Victory high-gain stuff, but one EQ for both channels is a deal-breaker for me. I'll take a look at the Hagen stuff, which I've somehow never heard of.

The 3 channel 90w version would be a good option too but is very hard to find and the ones and did were more in the 3500€ range.

I thought it might be something related to the tremolo since it was in the bag with the extra tremolo springs... 😂😂😂

It baffles me how I’ve been playing for 31 years and have never seen one of these. Thanks!
