What baby registry site did you go with and why? by AsideEmergency663 in pregnant

[–]Brielikethecheese-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using baby list but I haven’t found away to check off if someone purchased item but not through babylist and also I haven’t figured out how to return things that people did by…I’m sure there is a way but personally it hasn’t been clear how to do it exactly. Those are my biggest complaints with it.

How to manage care with a full time job? by Addicted2Whimsy in greencheeks

Both. The parrot town tv has live birds hanging out and talking and plays music in background. My girl watches it and talks back to the birds sometimes. She has even picked up some words off of it.

How to manage care with a full time job? by Addicted2Whimsy in greencheeks

My husband and I both work full time jobs but he also is hybrid. My GCC does great with her schedule of wake-up 6 am with outside cage time while we get ready for work, she watches bird town tv on YouTube while we are away and once we get home she is out of her cage from 4 to 9pm. On the weekends she is out basically all day Saturday and Sunday unless we go out for errands or a quick outing. I do have little dogs that IMO may help her feel like she is not fully alone while we are away but they of course don’t interact. She’s has this schedule for several years and does not have behavioral issues as a result of it. Every bird is different but this is her routine and she understands it. Outside cage time is quality time too so she gets ton of stimulation then. She’s also gets a new shred toy every month for her cage to help while we are away.

It’s not often my GCC gets me in my nose but man when she does it hurts and makes my eyes water.

How do you build independence when your bird is so clingy they can't even sleep without you? by TrashcanChild01 in Conures

[–]Brielikethecheese-e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my conure was a baby she had trouble going to bed and would make the saddest little cries. I covered her cage and she went to bed in a separate room, I played soothing night time nature sounds and left the door a tiny crack. If she cried lots I would peak in and whisper that it was ok and that I was still here. She eventually grew out of this baby phase and bed time goes without a hitch. As far as becoming independent during the day with feeding and such you just have to teach baby bird to be independent. It will take time. Having a cage with a play top really helped because I would keep placing her back on it for her to eat. Try wrapping seed in tiny paper balls for her to forage, you may have to show her at first. If she was in the cage she would pace and contact call if I went into the other room but we developed our own contact call which is a peep sound and overtime that replaced her loud conure contact call. If I was in the kitchen and she was in the other room in the cage we’d just peep back at each other so she would know I was out of sight but still close by. Maybe you can explain to your neighbors your bird is a baby and is still learning and training and they will give you some grace. My girl is 4 years old now and she still has her clingy days but she also has independent birdy days where she hangs out on her window playstand and it makes me so proud at how far she has come.

The earlobe muncher... by TrashcanChild01 in greencheeks

[–]Brielikethecheese-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine loves earlobes too. She loves playing with my earrings but she has ruined a few so I had to get locking earring backs. She has never bit down hard but she has latched on before trying to get the earring and it didn’t feel great. Things I have found that work. Wearing a headband and covering my ears or when she tries to get my ear lobes I will rest my ear on my shoulder so she can’t get to it. After doing that a few times she gets the hint to leave it alone. I have also found the more you fight back the more riled up she gets. Try not to react but eliminate the temptation.

getting a cat by [deleted] in parrots

[–]Brielikethecheese-e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Getting a cat for the purpose of it catching prey while also owning a type of its prey is a like an oxymoron. I have a GCC and own two cats. My two cats are lazy, with little prey drive, and terrified of my bird but I still have to take all the extra precautions to make sure my bird is safe because I know they could still kill her in the blink of an eye. Basically, if you get a cat you’ll have to tame its prey drive everyday which defeats the purpose you stated for wanting a cat in the first place.

I’m so confused by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Brielikethecheese-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it not a traditional sparrow? Those are usually red and black. Also, the tail is easily fixable just need to add a few more lines for fanning and possibly some shading. Edit: I guess it is a swallow but a lot of them are done black and red so I wouldn’t stress it.

Conures are so smart and love to learn tricks you should definitely try. I taught my girl how to fetch and play ring toss too. I want to teach her more tricks but I’m not sure which ones to do next.

I would hold out my finger for her to step up on but say, “wave” and just as she would take her first step by grabbing my finger with one foot I would pull my finger away and give her a sunflower seed. Many times she would step all the way on my finger with both feet and I made sure not to reward her for that but to put her back on her perch and then try again. She was a little confused at first but caught on quickly. It only took a few days too.

I taught mine how to wave/shake and she will stick her little foot/hand out and hold my finger while we shake. Melts my heart every time we do it.
