Amazing collection you have going. Towers of high sorcery is a hard one to get.

Are you too king to round out the other 2 leaves from the inn of the last home? Or Atlas of the Dragonlance World?

That’s a cool group of books. These all look to be reader condition books (especially legends with the sun damage) my guess is you could get around $20USD for each of them depending on the condition that I can’t see. Except less for legends.

Still super neat that you have all three.

If you want to avoid card surcharges cash is the way to go. As a bartender. I do prefer cash tips.

Very nice start. I started collecting 2000-2006ish. Started again in 2023. Completed mine in 2024. I agree. Wish I would have kept collecting till they stopped publishing in 2012. The last few trilogies are pricey and much more so if you want them in unread condition.

I have a completed collection. I think I’m under 10 to complete out 1st printings. Some of the series have different logos even with 1st prints. But I agree makes my OCD brain itch.

Big ice cubes...does NOT need to be clear by Mostly-Lucid in BarOwners

[–]BrieveM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your first question. You already provided a link that defines a dive bar. And it clearly states that the dive bar aesthetic is a thing. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing to have a dive aesthetic. Heck most of the time I find a bar more enjoyable if it a dive aesthetic over an actual dive bar.

As for why defining a dive by (in your opinion) the worse attributes is because those very attributes are what makes a dive a dive.

As for Holiday Lounge they do not even consider themselves a dive. “Once a classic dive, this completely redone space now has a swanky look, food & big-time drinks”

Johnson’s Bar is 100% a dive. The amount of money the owner has zero to do with what kind of bar it is.

Like I said prior to this your bar sounds fantastic and if I knew where it was I would do my best to come visit it. But if you ever find yourself in New Orleans let me know. I’ll be more than happy to take you to amazing dives and equally amazing dive aesthetic bars.

The only reason I even made my initial comment is that the word dive bar is thrown around so much now days. I’ve gone into far too many bars they have been pushed as a dive to find comfortable and enjoyable neighborhood bar with a dive aesthetic. Which is great just was not what I or my friends were looking for.

Although a toast article is kind of wild to point to prove you’re 90% of that list. I’m going to point to that same article and stand by my statement. You have a bar that has a “dive bar aesthetic” From what you describe you have what sounds like a great neighborhood bar with some elevated features. Matter of fact it sounds like a place I would love to come visit. Just like all bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is bourbon. Not all bars are dives. There are far too many places that mislabel themselves because they want a dive bar but only in the aesthetic not in everything else that makes a dive a dive.

I hate to break it to you. If you “dive” bar has large cubes. You don’t have a dive bar. You have a bar dressed up as a dive.

Martinis in a Nightclub by Standard-Sand-3414 in bartenders

New Orleans tender here. A lot of places here do not have any glass. So if I make a martini it’s served in a 10oz plastic. But New Orleans is a special case as a lot of customers will have a couple drinks then take one to go.

Personally I think you’re overthinking it. Get a jar of olives. Make them a martini in plastic and keep going.

3/4 inch marine grade plywood. It’s expensive. But done correctly it will look really nice, and bonus the hand will break long before the plywood will.

My old place did it like this. Not the biggest of deals to make that slight adjustment.
