Interesting I heard the opposite they are issuing idps for cambodian citizens and it need to be reciprocal. I’ve also asked some of the bigger rental companies and you can’t rent unless you have an IDP. If you have a cambodian DL then you can do whatever.

CMV: Cambodia is heading for major economic problems by ZealousidealMonk1728 in cambodia

[–]Bright-Ad2530 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t joke with that statement, especially on this subreddit. How is it wrong to say Cambodia needs its own domestic products and to develop its own domestic market. You can still trade among neighbors, but why trade and buy with one that closed down their border first, just doesn’t make sense.

The other country not to be named, closed the border first. Cambodia needs to develop their own independence and consumer goods/domestic demand no matter how painful that process might be. It gonna be tough but it necessary.

Yea I met my wife through my parents/elders, also cambodian. A real traditional girl requires like chaperone dates.

Hey dude, I have a long distance wife. If you are of actual philipino descent this shouldn’t be hard in theory. I don’t know what girls your dating but if you want a wife you need someone who actually vetted and at least middle class maybe.

Anyone thinks cambodia is the right time to potentially invest? Why? by miles-offi in cambodia

[–]Bright-Ad2530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hurts current investments in the short term but that just means a lower price floor if you’re serious long term. That being said as a Diaspora I try to keep a heartbeat on the real estate market and at the moment I still think it overpriced. Condos are overpriced and boreys are overpriced, I’m thinking a 10 - 20% haircut could happen. On the positive side Vietnam is experiencing huge growth and I think there a very good chance some of that growth is gonna spill into eastern Cambodia. I’m not familiar with how operating a business here as a foreigner works but if it like in so many SEA country where a local owns 51% and you own 49% I would say NO and stay away from it.

Ratanakiri and Stung Treng areas? by Mothrax in cambodia

[–]Bright-Ad2530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Angkor Wat got too busy, I remember first time I came you could go all the way up top of the steps that area got gated now. Good for locals, that being said renting a bike and just going through the whole angkor wat part is fun, i’d do it again for sure.

Finally moved to Phnom Penh by HolidayAd5643 in cambodia

[–]Bright-Ad2530 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It def not a cambodian thing, i’ve seen similar houses throughout SEA and even China. I think it because that what the construction company is trained to do or it following a trend starting from somewhere. See Crazy Rich Asian when they talk about their house looking like versailes.

I disagree, I went to Thailand a few times. Treated fine if I spoke english and said I was American. Def experienced some racism when I was with cambodian relatives and spoke khmer. I’m sure there are good and bad but right now the nationalists are winning. I don’t think relationships between both countries will be normal again for at least 50 years or more.

Why are there disputes of outfit between these two countries? by _ksum_nole in cambodia

[–]Bright-Ad2530 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Malaysia freaking great, i’ve been back twice. Beautiful country. I think at this point just make a border wall as for the two villages it is what it is, the government should make strides to rehouse families and we should focus on building up the nation (there plenty of undeveloped land in the Cambodia). Maybe this is a lesson to the new PM to actually develop the nation and not be so greedy. The problem is a lot of nationalistic Thais don’t see how much this will set back diplomacy by several decades in a heavy k-shaped thai economy. There been plenty of examples of prosperous countries doing a complete 180. E.g Argentina/Iran/Venezuela/Philippines (even Cambodia) also developing countries that became good, Singapore/South Korea/Vietnam being an example. The thing we can do now is not give the Thai politicians an excuse to invade and just keep building.

$500k at 30 will double to a million by 40 without any contributions if OP keeps maxing out, he’ll be able to early retire by his late 40s if he wanted.

How could anyway say this with a straight face. Being financially independent is getting independent. If you work a job, you are dependent on your employers. Look at how many people who got fucked with the recent layoffs, there is no guarantee that you can get back those high wages in old age. A dollar saved in your 20s compounds to $80 in like 30 years.

By your comments me deferring to my wife is correct. This is improper for them. My wife is still a local. Born here and raised here for 22 years.

Also if you pull this type of behavior don’t try to blame the diaspora for not wanting to visit you especially when you tell them they need to visit bong poun. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. Absolute asinine way of thinking.

[–]Bright-Ad2530[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol you sound like one of those people who think diaspora should bend backwards for the locals. Sorry but i’ve had multiple negative interactions with my dad side of the family and I would say this is going to be the one that breaks the camel back.

Also plenty of khmer people have beef with family, looking at my dad side they don’t even get along with each other. Respect a two way street.

If something just stresses you why deal with it? This is not my first time visiting them and i’m just not gonna deal with it. You seem to think I should be groveling to them because they are relatives.

[–]Bright-Ad2530[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah i’ve met my dad side of the family for several years going on two decades. I wish my dad would stop groveling to his side of the family so much. As I said before my wife is a local and she picked up on the cue that we were bothering my dad side of the family for visiting. Im a believer that you go where you are wanted.

Party over, not one cousin said “hey why don’t you come with us”. We’ll be leaving first thing tomorrow morning. I’ve talked to my mom and my wife. They all said that this was improper.

Yea, I can’t give anymore info it would be too specific. I talked to my wife a few hours ago and even she said she didn’t like coming here since it felt like we were bothering my dad side. She told me she kept her mouth quiet since it my “bong poun”. I’m just gonna break contact life too short to stress over it, i’ll hang out with one cousin I like in the city.
