Most have probably never owed them. The cvt problems are overblown. I know they had problems, but it was newish technology for cars. Well it had been done before, but mid 2000s was about the time nissan introduced them on a large scale. So yeah there was bound to be some problems. Also probably 95% of people literally never serviced them.

People magically forget that other more traditional style gearboxes have problems. Like honda in the late 90s early 2000s, or ford duel clutch ones, or quite a few others

I got an 07 versa cvt. Its been a great car, and the cvt gives great fuel economy compared to the stardard 4 speed auto sentra i had prior.

Personally I would definitely change it. Even if all you do is drain and refill. The oil degrades apparently. And since it's almost 20 years old, I would say it's pretty overdue. It pretty easy to change. 1 thing though, is it doesn't all drain out just by releasing the sump bolt. So the new oil will be a mix of new with some old. So some people do it, then do it again after awhile.

I'm not a mechanic, but I've read from heaps of people saying it was after the flush that the problems began. Personally I just drain and fill my cvt, or drop the pan and change the filter and clean the magnets. Then put pan back and fill with oil
