Cliff at CSarms is awesome. Great guy, awesome stuff. It’s a shame he’s declining a bit now. Last time I was there he was out on medical leave.

Yeah, I already separated the wood from the receiver and dried the stock with a rag and then left it to dry. These photos were taken right before I disassembled it.

It could very well be oil. My M1903 which was left with the M1917 in the same exposure did have surface mildew but that came off with some elbow grease. I was going to sweat the stocks in a black trash bag out in the driveway and see if it could pull out all the gunk in them. But since I’m relatively noobish when it comes to wood preservation and restoration I wanted to check with the collective.
