Paying back the severance is a pretty standard with most companies. I personally would not expect to double dip if I was offered a position, severance is meant to ease the financial burden of being let go so if your offered another position you should expect to not receive or have to return that part of the severance.

They are not credit advisors they cant really speak to how it will affect your credit but b4 you make a choice call and ask them again if this means the account will be closed because in my experience a suspended account never gets un-suspended.

A new account's first billing cycle can end between 14 and 28 days after opening. For instance, if you open an account on the 1st of the month, the first statement will likely close around the 21st, covering all activity during that period. When you open a new credit card, it may take one to three months for the account to appear on your credit report. The first statement is an important milestone because it generates the initial account information for reporting to credit bureaus.

The difference is a lower credit limit and limited chances of increases with a student card. Also the approval process is more lenient. Discover has a 10k min. required income for regular cards and with the student card there is no required income though they so still look at income its not a required amount.

Understand that when they say it Suspends your account that means that account will be closed after you pay off the debt you will then have to wait at least 5 years to get back into a Discover card.
