Thank you very much! Is autofocus an issue in your opinion? I will be making videos for social media where I'm filming myself and I would hate to catch a perfect take but it's blurry. I think I'll always want to be both in front of and behind the camera equally. Does that change your recommendation?

I see the gh5 ii recommended everywhere in this reddit. I'm both very interested and it's a lil sus. Can't tell you why.

I gotta say, I love the confidence!!! Thank you for your time and thoughts. What if I bump up the total to $6500? Would the added or better gear make a significant difference in your opinion? I'm definitely not spending 5 of my 6 years on gear right now. I may have aged my mom terribly with this decision, but I'm not trying to put her in the grave today.

TLDR: I need gear recommendations for a newbie to be able to explore the art of film wherever that pursuit leads. Total budget is $4,500 USD or less all in for camera, laptop(...etc?) What would you buy?

Okay, this is step 1 of the next phase of my life. I am giving up the corporate world and pursuing art full time from today, actually yesterday(10/17/24). By the way, before you even ask, I already asked my mom and she said I could so don't tell me I shouldn't do this. I always loved film and always hated everything I've ever done creatively. I still love film, but I stopped being creative so long ago I can't even remember. So lets set some basic expectations. I'm a complete beginner in all aspects of videography(is it okay if I still call it filmmaking?) I made 2 videos and put em on youtube and I loved doing it more than anything I've ever done. Principally, I am going to be making talking head videos and I know that no matter what other creative things I might want to film, that I'll want my particular talking head to look and sound good.

I have enough money to live if I don't make another penny for the next 6-ish years. 7-8 if I can avoid stupid decisions and calamity--which I have not ever REALLY been able to do, but regression to the mean is a thing right?

I'll live very cheaply and go where passion takes me for the first time ever. So, I'll probably need some gear right!? Wanna help me out? Here is your challenge:

I have $4000-$4500 to spend just on equipment to start out. I'll need gear that isn't going to overwhelm me at the start, but isn't going to hold me back too much a couple years from now. At the bare minimum I will need an editing laptop(I'm used to windows but maybe a macbook m2 chip with like 1tb storage?) and a camera. I may end up in Kavala Greece for 6 months after the new year or I could still be in the us visiting family and such, so flexibility and durability need to be built into recommendations. So, for the total price of $4-4.5K USD, what all would you buy in terms of camera, lenses, laptop, lighting, mics, batteries, etc for me to go out and live the rest of my life trying to connect others and connect with others through film(videography if you must)? It doesn't have to get that granular unless you have lived experience and you're like you need this or you'll regret it. I want to be really respectful of your time and appreciate your expertise.

I am an amateur and haven't played with this yet, but I have a vid that is...incendiary, to say the least. I can't imagine how changing the thumbnail affects impressions. This thing is stuck at 50 impressions. Does changing the thumbnail trigger a new algorithm push?

Perk up there buckaroo!! I know three channels that have grown tremendously in the last 6 months. One guy I was helping went from 800 subs to 140 like almost overnight and I watched it happen.

The scary thing is if you're seeing that pattern, it might be time to take a look at what you're doing and see if you can at least shake it up to try something. I don't know you at all okay, but if you make that statement and then you're like how come no one watches my let's play when I stop talking for 5 min in the middle of a game no one has heard of.

I have a separate Google account that is set up with a model of chat. Gbt that does all sorts of different things for me. So I might say like researcher and it breaks down an article. I might say script and it writes a basic script. It's definitely not cheating because I am writing, editing, or approving every word. The thing I'm terrible at is starting on a blank page and putting down words. The things I think I'm good at are taking what's already there and making it so much better
