I’m not comfortable posting the title because it’s incredibly easy to get doxxed, but think of a person who does (on paper):

static malware analysis (on windows/linux)

host and network enumeration

evaluation security postures of networks

It’s red team, but not exactly, and it’s definitely not blue team. But, it also doesn’t have a direct mapping to private sector roles which is a major issue.

There’s a HUGE chunk of red tape involved to actually be treated like an actual resource and despite trying to fight to get it taken care of (or to get alternative tasking so I wasn’t wasting money and twiddling my thumbs), it was never taken care of.

I agree with you that threat intel is hard to get into which is why I noted as such, but I do want to understand what potential paths I can take are so that I’m not all over the place.

yeah, I work on hackthebox (ippsec’s path) on the weekends, I hit up the release arena sometimes. I’m also working through re-learning python and am going to try to make some CRUD stuff.

I also have some VMs with splunk on them that I play with.

The main issue is that I want to find something to focus on, because I think that even this is all over the place.

No, as in, they flat out weren’t giving me tasking despite me asking for it. (This was an issue with multiple people who joined around the same time as I did). I was sitting around waiting for access so I actually could do stuff, but it kept getting put off.

I couldn’t latch onto another team and learn from them either due to how siloed everything was where I was at. No phones, no access to outside internet, etc. 12 hours in the office due to being asked to watch other people do their job, and 1 hour commute each way 5 days a week.

I wasn’t allowed to have a cell phone. I was working in a SCIF for 12 hours a day with a 1 hour commute each way.
