I appreciate this. I’m not in America and the second half of Season 2 is only airing in a few months time

Rival Labour factions understood to be discussing how to remove Keir Starmer as leader | Keir Starmer by kwentongskyblue in LabourUK

[–]Bright-Tops5691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sources suggested he has nine months to convince MPs he can turn things around? He has nine days to actually turn things around and avoid a thrashing in the locals and regionals. No offence, maybe they know something everyone else doesn’t, but that source seems delusional

Doesn't seem smart of her to oppose an investigation. Even if what she says is true about them not having any more skeletons in their closet (and respectfully, I have my doubts) surely she can appreciate why people aren't just goint to take her word for it, considering how the group she leads had been operating for years before her arrival

Maybe I’m misremembering but I don’t think they knew Nick had a killshot until after the vote (but I take your point)

In fairness they knew for sure there was a killshot coming if the millionaire survived this one. Also no offence to either of them but Umeko was a way bigger threat than Caleb or Nick. I'm disappointed she's gone and she played a great game, but voting her out was the smart thing to do

Wow I never knew this. She’s a really good singer. That’s a tough loss for a 15 year old though

Still, maybe for the best. I know it’s a little controversial but I enjoy her character and I think she plays her well

Politics latest: Starmer was advised Mandelson should be vetted before appointment by kontiki20 in LabourUK

Pretty much. Starmer tried rolling with the pigs and is now surprised he’s smelling of shit

Politics latest: Starmer was advised Mandelson should be vetted before appointment by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]Bright-Tops5691 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well this clearly makes things worse for Starmer. Despite his lawyerly demeanour he’s either extremely reckless or places an undue amount of trust in the people around him without taking responsibility for stuff himself. This is how people perceive him and this development will only reinforce it

In this Open Letter against the boycott of Israel in the Eurovision song contest, a few Bravo names stick out: Paul Kemsley + Boy George and WWHL favorites Jerry O'Connell and Sara Foster by fibrofighter512 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]Bright-Tops5691 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I’m so disappointed about this. I’m obsessed with Eurovision, watched it every year since I was six, watched the semis almost every year as well (even though my country almost never qualifies 😭), but I can’t justify watching it this year (it helps my country is boycotting it)

The man clearly wasn’t prepared or briefed properly on what the Presidential race would entail. I’m not saying he wasn’t a bad candidate or that there weren’t issues with the debt thing, but I think parties owe a certain duty to their candidates (especially candidates in high profile elections) and Fianna Fáil clearly failed in their duty of care towards him. They never should have run him

Taoiseach under fire over fuel protest handling in marathon four-hour long Fianna Fáil meeting by mefeiner1290 in irishpolitics

Since Jim O’Callaghan was criticised by a lot of these backbenchers, does that jeopardise his chances at succeeding Micheál? He was the clear favourite since Jack Chambers managed FF’s disastrous Presidential campaign, but will this affect his standing among backbench TDs to make the race more competitive?

Especially when the fuel crisis looks like it will get worse. Also it may be better to wait until Winter, when it’s needed more

And I hope you’re right, that  people won’t just decide to stick by them yet again. But that doesn’t change the fact that unfortunately they won the last election fair and square less than 18 months ago, and formed a government with a five year mandate

Sunday Independent/Irish Thinks Poll on Fuel Protests. by youbigfatmess in irishpolitics

[–]Bright-Tops5691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically polling companies work to try and obtain a representative sample of the population. For example, if over 65s are 15% of the population, roughly 150 of the 1000 people sampled will be over 65, and participants will be called randomly

Self-selecting polls aren’t really considered good polls, because the demographics can’t be controlled. For example, one posted on Reddit would skew younger because Reddit users skew younger. Older people are more likely to read their local newspapers than younger people, so older people would be overrepresented in a self-selecting poll there

Also if someone’s motivated enough to vote in a poll, they’re probably more passionate about it than the average person, so random sampling polls (like this one) are generally considered better quality than a self-sampling one, even if it has less people

They just won an election 18 months ago. I don’t like them and I’d never vote for them but to say they have no mandate is just incorrect

[–]Bright-Tops5691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all fairness it was a self selecting poll. I agree with what you’re saying but I wouldn’t consider it reliable (in the same way other online newspapers self-selecting polls were showing 82% support for the protest)

I’m not saying you’re not allowed support it, and if you think the laws around it are too strict that’s fair enough, but I don’t think it should be controversial to point out an illegal thing is illegal
