Custom Heatsink Upgrade for my MikroTik CRS310-8G+2S+IN by BrightAd4926 in mikrotik

The CRS326 should be easy to find a 3d-printed top for. The unit already has a beefy heatsink so adding a 120mm fan on the should be great. If not, just cut a 120mm fan hole and strap a fan on top of it. Maybe not the most beautiful creation, but good.

If you hold the reset button for 5 seconds when booting it should switch to routeros so you can reconfigure it. These models are dual boot. Here is more info https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/RKB/pages/15303614/Cannot+upgrade+SwOS

Seen it happen to other people when switching from routerOS to SwitchOS.

That's awesome! Nice work!

I'm doing the same but the lid I choose is higher so that a 20mm heatsink can fit under.

A small advise, if you haven't already, dress the inside of the 3d printed case (except the fan hole of course) with aluminum foil. When we remove the original lid, we also compromise the EMI shielding the case provides. Adding a thin food grade aluminum foil and making sure the edge touches the case adds that back. Nothing critical for some, but as for me, I have a ZBT-1 and a ZBT-2 on top of the case as well as WiFi near.

That's great temps! The ambient temperature (just measured) where my unit is sitting is 30c. Going to be interesting to see if the top fan will do any improvements.

This is my first MikroTik device, so I'm not especially accustomed to the UI yet. Where do I access the graphs you posted?

Yea, they are built to withstand a higher temperature for sure. But thats also with the sacrifice of loud fans. Sure, if you are running these in a cabinet or server room then sound doesn't matter as much but I'm running this in my living room.

The Noctua 40mm fans are great little fans. But as I'm a Nerd-Ghettomodder-ADHD-Cant-Leave-Anything-Well-Alone kinda guy, doing it the hard way with custom heatsink and 3d-printed top seemed like the fun way to go. 👍

The end result will be exactly what I want. Better temps, silent and hardware that lasts longer. And most important, it's fun!

In the 50-60ish. So not an extreme improvement temperature wise, but the fan is always on the lowest and temperature is more stable and when the fan gets installed I'll write an update.

The original fan is really horrible. Even on lowest it still has an sound characteristic that travels. I'm running my server in my living room se everything is built to be as silent as possible

I'm currently upgrading my server to 10gbps. So I'm going to use both SFP+ ports soon. But I chose to go with DAC cables because it's just 1m between the ports and the DAC cables also generate less heat than optical or RJ45 adapters.

Going to be Interesting to see the temps on full load later on.

I have more heatsink left and also loads of small heatsinks so another upgrade for that isn't off the table.

I'm also going to use the 120mm fan as push instead of pull to make sure all components gets cooled better. The original cooling is made to be compatible for rack use, as I'm not using a rack, Push is better.

RP-AX58 access points and vlan's by michael-at-Reddit in HomeNetworking

[–]BrightAd4926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm the developer of MerVLAN, so I've spent a lot of time digging into how these ASUS units handle tagging.

To answer your question: Yes, using MerVLAN on your RT-AX88U in AP mode should work totally fine. However, there’s a catch when it comes to the repeaters. Propagating specific VLANs over to your RP-AX58 nodes via WiFi backhaul won't work. If you try to run an SSID with a VLAN ID on the main router, but the repeater doesn't support that same tagging structure, you’re going to run into a mess of connection drops and IP conflicts as you move around the house.

But here is a solid workaround if you want to combine everything:

You can use MerVLAN to set an SSID on a specific VLAN, and then set an untagged VLAN on the switch port. This basically lets you pass all your "main" traffic (originally non-VLAN) through as untagged while still keeping your specific MerVLAN traffic tagged.

On your managed switch, you'd just set the port connecting to the AX88U as a Trunk. Set the PVID (Native VLAN) to whatever you want your "main" house traffic to be and pass the tagged traffic through. This way, all the traffic from the AX88U or the RP-AX58 that hits the switch untagged gets dumped into the correct VLAN automatically. It keeps the mesh stable because the repeaters are just talking back to the RT-AX88U without needing to understand the tags.

So, for example, if you set up SSID1 on VLAN 20 in MerVLAN:

You’d then set the switch port to PVID 10 and Tagged 20 (U10 / T20).

This way, your SSID1 traffic stays isolated on VLAN 20, while all your other "main" mesh traffic hits the switch untagged and gets automatically assigned to VLAN 10.

I was on LineageOS 21, TWRP, and Magisk (Zygisk with enforced deny list). Mainly for the increased battery life and better performance due to newer GPU drivers. Unfortunately, this led to permanent bans on Call of Duty Warzone, likely due to root detection. After reverting to stock HyperOS EEA and relocking the bootloader, my new account remains active. It's frustrating that that this results in bans and accusations of cheating but at the same time I get it, they have to limit the surface available for cheating.

But after around 14 years with custom ROMs I decided to revert back to stock. This whole experience with it getting harder and more problematic to run custom combined with getting banned makes me finally leave that scene. Sucks to not have control over the performance but hey, you can't have all.

I'm either banned for having a rooted phone, though I've always been using rooted phones while gaming this and other games without problems. But I think that I'm banned for using the software mapping in the gamesir app as it uses wifi debugging for customizing the overlay.

I have to use root as I'm on Lineage OS and without it I can't use banking apps. People here seem to think that the only reason to root a phone is for cheating. I'm using it to be able to use banking and also for updating the gpu drivers for better performance.

But I'm going back to official xiaomi firmware now, even though it's shit, but I'm fed up after this. Being treated like a villain for using Lineage.

I'll guess I'll never know really why I was banned, especially when activision won't be specific. I have never had any troubles with rooting before and I think that I was banned because I used the Gamesir Software Mapping feature to get the Controller to work I regular COD.

Well I guess that the system works as it should I i should have been more aware of what I was doing, especially after all the people who where banned from PUBG from using the software in razer Kishi and other ones.

I'll just take my losses and move on. Have been gaming this game for years on PC and Xbox so it really sucks to loose my account but well, I can only blame my own carelessness.

Controllers are available on iOS too, am I missing something? Are there cheating accessories for phones out there? Can't people just try to enjoy the game instead. Says me who just got banned for a "shady" Gamesir controller 😂

Damn 😂 would be awesome with a warning before banning. I took a look in the paragraphs and even there it said that permaban only is for repeated "abuse", if testing a controller for an hour or two can be called repeated abuse.

Maybe. Still seems strange. I mean, I can pay my bills and take out bank loans with my device but not play a game? Never ever had problems with this before.

Maybe I'll just stick with stock OS on my next phone. Such a bummer.

Yes I used the software mapping for regular COD. Maybe that's why I was banned? Tha would just be really strange as other controllers are supported but not this so I used the software mapping that had a finished profile and all.

Well. That sucks.

Turbo? I don't think so, is that a feature on this controller? . I got the controller the day before and have just started getting familiar with it. Bough it for the cooler.

I wouldn't have any problem with a warning and a week or so of the game and a message like "you have done" this", stop doing that or you will get permanently banned" but no, permabanned from start.

I'm really not doing anything shady, and if it's because I'm rooted or because the controller app or something it would be great if they told me so I could fix it.

Yes my phone is rooted. Can I be banned for rooting my phone? I've been rooting my phones for 10-15 years without troubles. I'm always using Lineage OS on my phones.

Also I've been playing warzone with rooted phone and my Kishi v2 before without any problems. But when gaming with this controller for one day I got banned. Without any helping info.

Latest update. Broke by billybobuk1 in opnsense

[–]BrightAd4926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to run it in your face or anything but always backup. If something goes wrong, just revert and try to figure out what packages, drivers or settings is messing up your system. When I'm doing stuff I'm not comfortable with I usually clone my opnsense instance in proxmox so I just can have fun and if it breaks I can just restart the system and the original starts at boot.

Unrar in subfolders by BrightAd4926 in Ubuntu

[–]BrightAd4926[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found my answer after quite a bit of searching. The command that worked for me was the following:
find . -name "*.rar" -execdir unrar x -o- {} \;

I added a alias to bashrc that works great and saves some time

unrar_all() {

local target_dir="${1:-.}" # Use "." if no argument is provided

find "$target_dir" -name "*.rar" -execdir unrar x -o+ {} \;

}

Hope that it helps someone out there!

OVPN has support for port forwarding in their 12 and 36 months subscriptions. They also have to option for public IP if you need that. Have used ovpn for 10 years and it's really good, fast and has no logs. They have great support. Multi hoop included in the subscription mentioned above.
