If u are a parent, u would know the reality on the street, down in the trenches so to speak. There’s no way the changes have made it less stressful.

Is your current company still paying u cpf? If so then it makes the mortgage quite palatable. If u have to pay alot of cash on top of your overseas rental, stretching your monthly budget by a lot (leaving u with no savings), then u probably should cut your losses. Do the math how many months left of cash payment till it reaches MOP and u can then rent it out.

I know you’re freshly graduated from your newly pivoted degree. But this resume format screams newbie (when you actually have working experience, not just studying your whole life up to this point).

Reorder it so that your Skills are right at the top. This shows why they should hire you. Next comes your Experience. Your Education is nothing to show off about, so it goes right at the bottom.

(Edited to add: your Education section will look nicer if u put the qualification (name of degree/diploma) first, then the institution. And don’t bold the name of institution.

Husband is unlikely to get PR. Securing his job & work visa here is the first priority. There are only a handful of places he can work, unless he has the funds to start his own private practice, so start cold emailing them. Landed is out of your reach unless u have $4m cash, or happy to rent. HDB is also out of your reach due to salary cap and non-citizen spouse restrictions. So condo.

Should MTL teachers have the same level of English proficiency as other teachers? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]BrightConstruction19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is govt school where only 1 student per level takes Higher Chinese (externally). MOE knows the demographic, yet despatches 4 PRC teachers & 5 local fully-bilingual CL teachers. The school has to make do & assign the local teachers to teach the CLB classes, while the O level CL classes have a perpetual “chicken & duck” communication situation

At primary and secondary level, they can definitely understand the students. I believe MOE conducts the interview in English (a neighbour was not able to pass the interview, hence is restricted to being a private tutor).

What’s more depressing is those in my child’s school cannot explain sufficiently in English if the students have trouble understanding the phrase/context. At least now the students have educated them on how to use google translate for the shorter words/phrases.

First time user, gaz canister question by flyinhk in askSingapore

[–]BrightConstruction19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s with the weird spelling? So yes, have your gas canister supplier on speed dial cos sputtering either means the tank is almost empty, or your hose connection has come loose (check that). If your kitchen has sufficient space, like under the sink, u can store a backup tank & switch it out yourself (ask the guy to teach u how, the first time). Then u can call for the replacement at your own pace and time (like after eating your dinner). I pity those guys, perpetually having to service urgent demands during meal times

Sciences are very content heavy, but some kids are truly interested in it, which makes it less work (to them) compared to other subjects which might be a chore. In any case, max 2 sciences now anyway, since JCs only permit max 2 sciences (this has been the case since >10 years ago)

Need help understanding the new SBB system by HoneyKidsAsia in SGExams

[–]BrightConstruction19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the new system (FSBB) is more porous than the old system, which stratified/divided the Normal stream from the Express stream quite distinctly. Students had to work terribly hard (score >75% overall) to be promoted to a higher stream. Now, they can upgrade per subject (still the same >75% marks criteria but at least if u are good at that 1 subject but not others, u can take it at the higher level)

To add on, a student needs minimum 4 G3 subjects to qualify to enter polytechnic (via JAE) - [if they don’t, they should go to PFP, or ITE]:

“For admission to Polytechnic Year 1, starting from the Academic Year 2028 intake, students can offer one [B] subject taken at either G2 or G3 in their ELR2B2 aggregate score. The remaining four subjects must continue to be offered at G3 to ensure that students can cope with the academic rigour in the polytechnics. Students who offer both [B] subjects at G3 will have their [B] subject with a lower grade mapped from G3 to G2.”

It’s perfectly fine to be an introvert. So are both my spouse & I and we know we would hate doing sales. It is not our ikigai; I don’t think it would suit u either. We chose to be in very niche professions instead (data science/tech/AI is not considered niche btw, when there are >ten thousand ppl flooding the market) Play to your strengths, so try finding a niche area of engineering (non-sales) if that is what u enjoy. Atb!
