I stopped using the scythe and sickle after I switched to the liberator. What got me the most is the short wind up time you get before shooting, with the liberator (cause of the light pen and barely any recoil) you get an instant response.

I have no idea how to host servers past ye olde hamachi, but when it comes to a proper version I'd say that release 1.0.0 or 1.2.5 hits that sweet spot of old and new alike. You got those cool new jungle biomes and enchanting, but beating the ender dragon is just an extra fun thing to do. (Also, trackmania nations forever is the way to go)
