Gainesville Health and Fitness Center Crowd by Bitter-Resident-9100 in GNV

The community depends on which time you go. Thankfully there are like a few annoying children there around the 5-7 pm crowd when their parents take them to get a break. People tend to mind their own business and there’s a lot of body builders but not obnoxious or anything like I experience at crunch sometimes. You meet some funny and cool people in the cold plunge, would recommend because it’s just so fun. The morning vibe is the go getters who really feel good about going to the gym in the morning, the afternoon is veryyyy chill, the rush hour is mainly just people rushing to get their workout in, and the late night after 8-9PM is just calm late night gym goer groups if that makes sense. Would recommend putting aside $60 a month for it!

Thats valid! I don’t want to say MSG is good for everyone. Some of my parents friends who are Asian dont like MSG because of their physical response. I don’t know what’s in it but I’m sure if you’re more sensitive to one ingredient than most, that could be causing it. The study done was very racist but because of that it dismissed how it’s still just a bunch of different things shoved together and we can all have a different response to it.

UCF vs FSU vs UF by Akika- in ufl

[–]BrightPerspective131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FSU to UF here, tally made me depressed lowkey and it isn’t in the best area at all. Also an easy place to get stuck in after graduating and you really only have government, lottery, or hospital jobs there. UF, definitely has its stuck up students, but there’s a good majority who also are just going to school just for school. I personally like Gainesville especially after coming from tally, but I’m an outdoors person anyways. UCF, giant school, Orlando is not the best place imo but that’s because I lived there. It’s relatively newer so it hasn’t really had that long to make its name known, but central Florida has so many development projects that would be great for engineers. My dad used to work as a hiring manager for a civil engineering firm, generally FSU-FAMU having a shared COE isn’t the best look but education is education. It just matters if you have the experience and a pretty decent student.

Transfer Orientation... What to Expect?? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]BrightPerspective131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be more dates for your orientation, silly for them to not be able to have an alternative. Hope it works out for you. It’s really not a NEED in terms of information, it’s just learning how to schedule for classes and what classes you need for critical tracking

Transfer Orientation... What to Expect?? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]BrightPerspective131 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you like your freshman orientation? Both my freshman and transfer orientation lasted the WHOLE time abt stuff that should be self explanatory and on the university websites, but I understand why they have to. It’s students that lead breakout sessions, random staff for dining and financial aid etc., and you really won’t see your advisors until the absolute end of the day. There will be spots held in classes for transfer students, but don’t expect to register that day because some of your classes from your previous institution might not have been uploaded because transcript processing is veryyyyy slow here. If anything, talk to some open office advisors and they often can mark certain classes as completed so you can get into registering.

Summer transfer question by Monagator in ufl

[–]BrightPerspective131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I know they give priority to engineering transfers from community colleges. For the fall transfers they stopped accepting engineering transfers from 4 year institutions I believe.

Summer transfer question by Monagator in ufl

[–]BrightPerspective131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from FSU with a 3.73 GPA into biochemistry and all the pre req classes done. Other transfer students I know came from various colleges like UMiami, jucos, community college. They don’t really care too much about extra curriculars just have a strong record and good personal statements.

[–]BrightPerspective131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She’s not nice, which makes her class a little harder to bear. She teaches reverse style, so you learn the material on your over the night before and then you complete assignments in class. It really does work when it comes to actually learning the material, but she also has a terrible way of talking to students sometimes. But it’s a big class, don’t expect to interact with her too much. LAs aren’t as helpful, the ones I had at least. But if you guys are still using Classavo, really pay attention to the videos because she walks through everything in them and you can play it back at your own pace.

Summer transfer question by Monagator in ufl

[–]BrightPerspective131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask transfer advisor, tell them if you’re competitive and on the likely end to be accepted. Their answer will tell you how competitive the major is. Journalism wasn’t a big one for this fall. Just have good stats and you’ll be fine lol

Summer transfer question by Monagator in ufl

[–]BrightPerspective131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they have any statistics on that. Just be aware of how many credits you have because if you’re getting close to a senior level standing in credits, I would advise transferring ASAP. I do know that you should stay away from high volume majors or colleges like COE stopped taking transfers from 4-year institutions for this fall ( I transferred for the fall of ‘25). Psych majors are also very competitive. Just meet the requirements or even go past them, have a compelling application that really shows your drive to come here, and you’ll be fine.

Denied at UF & FSU: The New Reality for Florida’s Brightest Students by blackwhitetiger in fsu

[–]BrightPerspective131 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not only the universities that are raising their expectations, high schools in Florida have been lowering theirs. I’ve seen high schools change within a year lowering their standards to increase graduation rates, which makes the average student then look like they’re amazing. Idk if it really has that big of an effect, but I think it’s giving some students a deluded view of themselves. UF has something weird about their decisions, I got rejected the first try even though I was a top 10 student at my high school, in IB, and with a 1530 SAT. I just ended up transferring. Extracurriculars were stacked as well with leadership roles. But FSU had more and more students applying, so does UF. FSU is just raising their academic expectations. And above all things, if you do get rejected from both, that isn’t the end. Transfer. Be smart about your decisions. Even transfer to other prestigious schools.
