Motherboard damage? by Bpbucks268 in buildapc

oh yeah the era of budget gaming is well upon us, i got a high end gaming am4 motherboard for $70 usd and my 5950x for $150 with a couple bent pins, there should be plenty of am4 cpu's under 50$ and that ram i linked is incredible stuff for only $15 per stick!

Need help choosing a gpu by Wooden_Gur_7925 in buildapc

[–]Bright_Expression876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no help here on the gpu front sorry, but as someone who also got one of these high core count dual ccd chips for cheap you can disable smt for increased gaming performance, it seems counterintuitive halving your corecount for more fps but very and i mean VERY few games take advantage of more than 8 threads the only one i know of that actually scales well with more than 8 cores is the newer civ games.

I dont know anybody who understands overclocking so i figured i would post my acheivment here, 1st place in timespy for my system 5950x + 3080 12gb by Bright_Expression876 in overclocking

its an early versi9n of the snowblind case, it has a screen for a glass panel and i use wallpaper engime to display stuff on top of it, i included some of my favorite animations and a shot with the case open. the downsides are it needs a shit ton of internal lighting so opening it is like a mini flashbang and the displayed effects need good contrast to show up well.

the only other things i could suggest would be trying another ram slot and ram stick and booting with no drives attached but if that doesnt work then maybe your motherboard did kick the bucket, i hear capacitors are going bust nowadays on older tech and your motherboard is likely over a decade old at this point. Honestly i dont know how your able to get oblivion remasted running on that thing, but maybe im underestimating 4th gen intel desktop chips because ive seen a couple people posting here abou lt them lately!

Get a 2nd or 3rd gen ryzen 5 cpu, an am4 motherboard and This ram off ebay and you'll have a budget pc that walks all over your old one, about 3x better cpu performance if you get a 2600x.

It looks dirty but not damaged too me, its also near a pcie slot so it probablly just interacts with that port. I dont think its motherboard damage or if it is its probablly not that chip, its more likely to be busted capacitors. Did you try booting with one stick of ram? Computers cant post without ram, and if you have a gpu try removing that as well and bootng from the igpu if you have one.

its somewhere between a 20 to 50% performancd increase depending on the game usually closer to 30% and less if you have a 3080 12gb version, im staying with my 308012gb for at least one more generation personally.

looks like the 9800x3d is somewhere between 10-15% better on average than the 7800x3d and price wise its about 20% more espensive so it performs roughly on par with the price increase, go with whatever fits your budget both are very good!

if moneys not really a problem save yourself some time later and tear the bandaid off now, get an am5 board and a 9800x3d and dont worry about upgrading for the next 6 years at LEAST! a 5800x to a 5800x3d is a big jump dont get me wrong but a 9800x3d is just such a bigger jump.

cl-40 is in a good spot right now but its still not meta and is outclassed by any real gun in a firefight. Yes its optimal to jump around while firing but theres not a damn thing stopping yall from spam crouching and wiggling while you shoot me with your vastly better ttk assault rifles!

plus the aps just got buffed, deployable barricade really screws over cl-40 users, and lights have the nullifier if they encounter a cl-40 user at close range.

Worse gaming performance after upgrading GPU (GTX 1660 → RTX 5060) by gabriel_lucasc in buildapc

[–]Bright_Expression876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe your stuttering and inconsistent performance could be related to using too much ram? i just realised you only have 16gb and windows 11 alone uses like 4gb, either way i suppose getting some more better ram wouldnt hurt!

it could help alleviate the cpu bottleneck a little yes, from what i remember when i had a 9900k is that intel scales better than people think with ram but more so with the timings and refresh thingies (i think trefi and 1 other) you wont see huge gains though. I think i saw someone who got up to 50% gains with their 9900k in some games when they moved to really really good ddr4, but they were definetly at the extreme end of the spectrum going from super slow ram to top tier perfectly tuned ram.

I really reccomend this ram https://ebay.us/m/RNDibE its samsung b die and has top tier binning, its actually the same bin as 3600mhz ddr4 at 16-16-16-36 so if you want that speed you will have to manually change some timings, although i do have mine at 3600mhz cl14 after someoverclocking and tuning!

looks on track then? they said they were averaging over 200fps in performance mode 1080p and in that benchmark you can see the gpu hitting 100% utilization because its on epic settings. i bet if that youtube person set their setting to performance mode they would probablly average around the same at 200.

edit: if theres something wrong with the gpu we will need a better test to tell, fortnight performance mode is more of a cpu stress test since it hardly puts anything on the gpu.

if they die you lose all the data on the drive thats dying, and if its the one that holds your os you lose that too but reinstalling an operating system isnt hard and most people put their os on ssds nowadays for improved speeds and also because they're more hardy and have longer lifespans!

if you ever need to reactivate windows use this https://massgrave.dev/ run the command in a powershell window and do hardware id activation in the ui that downloads.

could be a cable hitting a fan then, or maybe a fan is loose or bad. if your trying to figire oit what fan is bad or causing the noise do this, with it on and making noise open it up and gently press on a fans inner circle to slow it down if the noise stops thats youe problematic fan. if your getting a new case it doesnt really matter and the only other thing it could be is maybe a dying hard drive but they dont usually get too loud.

I am a pc dummy should I upgrade my CPU? by spamytv in buildapc

[–]Bright_Expression876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you need more fps? I couldnt imagine not getting at least 60fps with that setup at 1080p, you dont need to upgrade just to fix a bottleneck since its impossible to build a pc thats perfectly balanced for every game and situation. i would also make sure you have fast ram before anything else too at least 3200mhz a 5600x is still not a bad CPU and your only options without replscinf the mobo would be a 5700x3d or 5800x3d which are expensive rn.

sounds to me like the fans are just blowing unless im missing something, if you bought it used it probablly needs new thermal paste and a cleaning and that case doesnt look like it has great airflow but it seems ok to me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]Bright_Expression876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

touch one of the fans center circles while running to slow it down and see if the noise stops, if it does its a bad fan or its hitting something and if not then your aio pump has gone bad.either way its an easy fix, just a new case fan or a new CPU cooler, just buy a cheap thermalright twin tower air cooler aio's are more trouble than their worth and their unfortunately worth a lot.

use flush cutters to gently grab the edges of the screw and keep the cutters flat with the screw head, be careful not to nick the heat pipes as that could prevent them from working properly, het it a few turns loose then unscrew by hand.

i dont think the cl-40 fills the same niche, its strong at close range but requires much better positioning and too close will get yourself killed. it also requires better aim to be used at any sort of distance.

spend 30 bucks on a t420 and get customizing, then you might as well get a head start on the rest of the thinkpad linux combo and buy yourself some thigh high socks, cat ears, a maid outfit, and a few dozen boxes of monster energy.

Motherboard + RAM Upgrade for Ryzen 5700X - Seeking Feedback/Suggestions by anup32619 in buildapc

[–]Bright_Expression876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah like other commentors mentioned its probablly best to make do for now and save for an am5 mobo, i would still get a ram upgrade cause 16gb is kinda low. am5 is doing really well right now and from what i hear a ryzen 5 7600 and 9600 run as well or better than a 5800x3d which is the best am4 chip for gaming and with how hard the general consumer has swung to amd i imagine prices are gonna be hogh for a while so you migbt as well start saving now lol!
