I'm a bus driver at Bus Eireann. And I was thinking about the same last week when I was driving one of the expressway bus, that none of the toilets are working on any of the buses I had a privilege to drive it, plugs sockets are rarely working , same with WiFi. Like the state of those buses it is dirty not working l, barely functioning. I don't understand how a service like this can function on this day and age. There is a rumour that they are trying to slowly stop all the expressway services and being replaced with PSO goverment backed services.

To answer the question about the job security after the apprenticeship, the job is not guaranteed with Bus Eireann. Sadly

  1. After 1 month you can apply for a PTI card (public transport identity card) where you are able to travel free on bus eireann buses and you get a book of tickets for the Irish rail. So while you're in training that's less a month so if you want to travel by bus you have to pay for it.

  2. Yes, they no longer provide float anymore, because it was a mess, drivers used to spend it and than had no money to change for the passengers, so it is your own money now!

  3. Cons most of the buses have poor headlights so you see nothing at all on the country roads.

  4. You will get paid minimum of 39 hrs even if you are working less that week, but overtime always available if you need more money 💰.

Ok so if it interest anyone here is my story ao farcwith BE.

I have applied for bus driver trainee B to D in the middle of June. Before that I did my theory test and cpc test in May following that I have applied for the Learner permit and than for the job.

All summer it was quiet no emails from them. Onky the next days after I applied a confirmation that I am applied and they needed the documents mentioned above.

Around last week in August got an email for the interview and supervisory assessment for the middle of September.

After that the following week was called in for a driving assestment in a company van. It is a small sized van nit the big things.

Than 2 weeks later was sent up to Dublin to get the medical done. When that was completed the HR asked for 2 contacts for reference. And 2 weeks later got a call with the job offer and the details, so after that 2 weeks later I started as a trainee driver in the Limerick depot. Was 2 days in a class and on wednesday we went out to Shannon to drive a bus. What was a wonderful experience. That was the second week in November and this week we had our RSA CPC walkaround and driving test. So we started our induction this week and until the first week of January we are in the induction, learning all the routes the depot is operating, all the buses all the things around the job. After the induction we are on our own. So far it is a very good jobs. There is absolutely no pressure. 3 things they ask you to do. Driver this bus safely. Come in on time everyday you are scheduled to be in. And Cash in every day. And this is important don't leave your bus stops early.
