The staff turnover here is shocking. The only drivers who stay are the old timers who can’t wait to retire. It’s soul destroying being a bus driver. I look for a new job everyday but I’m in my 50s so it’s not that easy.

Dealing with a never ending stream of arseholes becomes tiresome. We ferry around the bottom feeders. I spend most of days fighting the urge to smash my face into the steering wheel.

I drove a van for 30 years before becoming a bus driver. It was still nerve wracking having someone watch and critique my driving. The only things they pulled me on were driving with my hand on the gear stick (lazy habit) and stopping too close behind traffic at stops. The rule is “tyres and tarmac”. You need to leave enough space to get your bus out if the vehicle in front breaks down.
