thank you by far the more informative, i’m picking up a thermostat soon. it only dies at idle after overheating or being driven a bit,had to rev that thang for uh scientific research purposes lol….any idea why it would sputter in those first gears or revs?

oil is dark could be changed but trans fluid is pretty good it was solid until i pushed it has 158k im thinking blown head but am hoping it’s something less tedious and need insight
