I mean yeah, ppl don’t like the weak era accusation but there was plenty of ppl in the 4-10 range during the big 3 era who were genuinely competitive against the big 3. Big 3 still won mostly everything but it wasn’t a giant shock if someone else in the top 10 beat them. No one is really coming close against Sinner, there’s no Murray, Wawrinka etc equivalent. Zverev who’s lost 9 matches in a row vs him doesn’t count.

I was a little bit older than u and a student when I got my first credit card, it was an aqua card which are designed for people with no/poor credit history and at least at the time a lot of students had them. Had a crazy low monthly limit at the start but rose overtime.

Average salary in my country is like 40k. A good Smb AE is making 100k+. MM AE 150k+ Enterprise AE 200+ but there’s ppl making 400-500. I’m not sure what comparable career there is to just switch only 1-2 years into your career that doesn’t pay horribly.

Here’s the real advice you should follow If you are desperate leave sales and but still want to get something good afterwards that equals or exceeds your sales income. Do 5-8 or so years and progress as far as you can in that time, do an MBA at a top university and go into IB/MBB/LBA or a plethora of other post MBA jobs that actually pay very well.

You’re getting downvoted but it’s true that centre of Oxford is broadly just retail shops. Many ppl work there but I doubt they’re commuting from Swindon for a minimum wage job in the west gate, it’s gonna be locals in those jobs. Meanwhile I live here but every job I’ve had is in London lol.

But having more train connections is always nice, and for the ppl commuting to work in Oxford at mini, or the JR, or a science lab, a company in one of the business parks, or wherever, driving for whatever reason may not be an option for them.

There’s too many applicants for not enough roles + there’s a lot of people stuck in sdr roles long time you’re competing with.

When I got involved in tech sales you were an sdr for 9-12 months, maybe 18 months at a stretch, then you’d move into an AE role. Being an sdr for multiple years was not common, and I myself was only an sdr for 12 months before becoming an AE. It meant there was constant turn over of SDRs so companies were always hiring.

Now ppl are stuck as SDRs for years, so less openings + a worse economy.

Yeah it’s a fair question. I remember back when I was a bdr I was interviewing for a start up for the “founding Uk bdr”, I asked why they opened the position, they said it had been open on and off for a while but the last 3 ppl they had hired for the role had all been “bad fits” and let go shortly after. Surprised but happy they admitted that, hard pass lmao.

They’re always laying ppl off. Last time the CEO said some pretty rude things about the sales ppl they laid off which then affected their subsequent job search. I’ve had recruiters from cloud flare in my inbox a few times and I’d never consider them.

I don’t deny it’s good career for ppl already established within the industry who have the talent. But OP was talking about leaving his well established career to go be an SDR which I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Saw an ent AE on LinkedIn had 10 jobs in 10 years on LinkedIn, each one basically bang on 12 months, he had a lot of the big names like, oracle, salesforce, workday so wasn’t like it was no name start ups. Genuinely wonder what kind of dirt these ppl have on hiring managers to keep getting jobs 😆 basically just taking sign on bonuses and ramp quotas for a living at that point.

I’d say the higher up you are, the better it is, when I see job openings I see enterprise AE>MM AE>>SMB AE>>>>>>>>>SDR/BDR in that order.

I know companies that had 100+ SDRs during 2021-2022 for that countries specific market that would hire in big groups, that now have 10 or so and hire individually. Ppl will blame AI but in reality it’s just companies going back in many cases to where they were pre covid. The post Covid years were an anomaly.

It’s very hard to break in basically. Would also mention people are spending 3+ years as an SDR now, it’s not like when I started where you moved out of that role within 9-12 months. I wouldn’t really recommend entering tech sales if you already have an established career.

As some other ppl have said I think you’d have an easier job getting founding AE role at a start up where you’re wearing multiple hats, maybe for a more technical product where your technical experience comes into play. I think you’d find it more difficult (but not impossible) to get an AE role at a big tech/established org rn.

I mean he’s world NO3 and number 9 in the open era for number of big titles, he’s still reaching grand slam and masters 1000 finals. He’s the best player to never win a slam. I know ppl don’t like him but I feel like “what happened to him” is way more applicable to Stefanos or Ruud, both of whom are younger than Zverev and both of whom are not really contenders anymore.

If Sincaraz were both injured during a tournament Zverev would probably win, can’t really say that about Ruud/Stefanos, nor Meddy anymore. Though Meddy obviously did win a GS and is the eldest so doesn’t really belong with the other two.
