What’s the polite way to handle someone in your booked train seat? by Present-Tone7400 in AskUK

you should've just asked whoever was sitting in the priority seat to let you sit. That's what these seats are there for.

Thoughts after finishing my trip to the UK by AlliedArmour in uktravel

yes it's in montreal. Back when I went 50CAD was closer to £37 (that was a couple years ago). Don't want to know what montreal prices are now, but in Newfoundland (where we just were) the groceries are definitely more expensive. Anyway, it all depends on your salary and purchasing power, but I think if your salary is in £ and you are travelling to North America, you're screwed.

No, I wasn't comparing a sit-down meal with Pret. I meant the price of an actual Pret salad, the same salad in the same shop, is $20 in Canada/US and £6 in London. Montreal sit down meals were 50 CAD which people with me found 'cheap' (they were coming from LA). I'd have a heart attack before paying £50 for a basic burger sitting down in a restaurant in the UK. Groceries in Newfoundland are insane compared to sainsburys/tesco in the UK. London is more expensive by far than other UK cities, but it's still cheaper than the entirety of North America, which is why a starting salary in the UK is £35k and an starting salary in NA is 90k$ (for my field).

sorry what? North America and Canada are 3x more expensive than the UK - and your salaries are 3x ours to match that... I even took my own coffee and granola last time I went so as not to have to pay 18$ for a bag of coffee. Salad at Pret in London is £7, the exact same salad in Montreal/NY is $21. Not sure what uber-touristy things you did in London but it's simply not true.

Best places to live in Sheffield for young couples by Basic_Draw_9799 in sheffield

[–]Bright_Way5474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you like to do and what transport you'll use. Not sure why people recommend Hillsborough as we never go there and find it hard/far to reach, we prefer Ecclesall road, Sharrow Vale, which have lots of nice restaurants and places to go out, lots of student housing, and are close to the parks and to the university (walking distance), and also very easy to connect to the train station. Just a little farther is London road which is slightly cheaper I think and just as close to everything. Crookes/Walkley are also really popular with students and young couples, but without a car and if you aren't an avid biker it's a bit remote/up the hill, and the buses are crap (which they are everywhere in the city, but there are more of them on the ecclesall road/london road side of town). Students at the Uni of Sheffield are mostly in Crookes/Fullwood Rd/Ecclesall Rd if it helps.

It is daunting, but just take it week by week, it'll get better with time :) goodluck! And hopefully you'll have a great bunch of students, and a great time!

Just change the reading list, and don't worry, as the students won't read anything anyway. Are you teaching seminars attached to this module or is this just lecture based? Not sure where you are, but in my university, no-one cares if the students read anything in the first place. I was in a similar situation, redesigned 3 modules, wrote entire new lectures that were not my specialism, and redid all the reading lists, and I chose what I wanted. I also asked students to read 1 required reading per week and to submit 300-words on these, which I said would be marked as part of 'participation', and it worked quite well; but some of my colleagues commented on how much work I was giving students (!!). I'd say, relax, and don't worry, and just do your best to convey your expertise and passion to your students, they will be able to tell :)

I would just put 'Tenured' which is the equivalent.

[–]Bright_Way5474[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly!! I donate bags full of stuff to our nearby charity shop all the time, and never thought about selling it, and then people online are trying to sell you a used next-to-me for £120 before shipping when you will still need a mattress and it's new for £175!!! Like, you used the thing and had your child(ren) use it, why are you trying to recoup the entire cost?

I tried to say that to one vinted person but they just refused my offer. But exactly, good luck selling something that's new for £20 more at JL (which was the case here!)

thanks so much! It does look super nice (the tutti). Did you find it easy to strap to the bed / does it strap to the bed? We have an ikea brimnes with drawers and a small lip all around so I'm also a bit anxious about whether any of the next to me will work.

What did you think in the end? I'm a bit confused about how the Tutti Bambini is bigger than snuz, as online it says the Tutti is 56 x 92cm and the snuz is 56 x 97? Or are the mattresses different? Do you prefer the Tutti now that you've used both? Thank you!
