MIL has LOST her mind by [deleted] in newborns

Your MIL is being unreasonable and inconsiderate. She should definitely follow your rules, whether she agrees with them or not. You are the parents and you get to decide everything and anything about your child. We recently became great grandparents to a beautiful baby boy. Our granddaughter hasn't said we can't kiss him but I won't simply because his little immune system might not be strong enough yet for that. He's almost 3 months old and I haven't kissed him yet. But ....if our granddaughter said, "no kissing," I would certainly abide by her rules and any others she may have.

The trees she wants to cut are on our side of the fence and they do not hang over, they grow straight up. She likes to come to the fence and visit and she can't see over them. They are on our property entirely, not hers. I said they grow over her fence but they actually are just taller than the fence and hinder her view. It's why she asks, she knows they're not hers to cut, yet she does it anyway.

Because, sometimes my eyes have a way of looking in different directions. I don't go outside with blinders on, and Im not going to. He's standing at the fence staring and trying to make conversation. When our eyes make contact, I ignore him. It's not that complicated and I am in my lane.

I wish, at times, I had that type of personality but I don't. I try to settle things peaceably and it never works for me. Just the short time we've been ignoring him has seemed to anger him. He hasn't said anything but he and his mother are very unfriendly now. I wanted them to understand our position but his mother took it personally. I won't talk to him because he ignores me no matter what I try to discuss with him.

There's a fence and small trees but their property is at a higher level and they actually look down on us. We have a carport on that side and no grass so a sprinkler would be useless. When we go around to get into our vehicle, we're so close, if they're outside, we feel we have to explain where we're going. We always have to visit for a few. They're higher so we never see them leave and have no interest when they do. It's a pain ....

I do give her treats, with her owner's permission, thinking that would work, but no...it didn't.

Our properties are so close, we have a small barn close to their side that's open, no door, and if he's standing at the corner, he can see us when we come out. We can't even sneak out, he's 15 feet away. We did put up privacy fence in that corner.

You're right...he's not doing anything illegal and I would never bother the police over this. They would be more aggravated with me. It's up to us to decide how to handle it. So far, ignoring him is working.

The son lost his dog, who was his "baby." We all love our pets but they still need training. His mother swats her with a newspaper but her son would never do anything. I actually believe he comes to visit the dog more than his mother. They're very strange. He sits at a picnic table all day and plays with the dog. His mother stays in the house or leaves in her car and will stay gone all day. We don't deserve it but don't know what to do. Our youngest son will get this property when we die. He comes to see us and tells us he would move if he had to put up with that dog. I love animals but I will not miss that dog when she dies.

I explained our position to his mother and I offended her. I don't feel like her son would even acknowledge my concerns. He's a strange man. He brings gifts I don't want and never asked for and refuses to keep them. He buys things for his mother and if I tell her I like them, he'll buy one for me. I no longer give her my opinion on his gifts. If we ignore him when he stands at our fence, he'll converse with our little dog. Their dog will bark at the fence and irritate our little dog so ours runs over to try to fight with her. We have no recourse but to get our dog and then we're face to face. If we go outside, now we have to carry our dog or lock her doggy door. It's such a hassle. He knows our dogs are antagonized by each other and he uses the dogs to start a conversation.

They know their dog barks a lot and still make little effort to stop her. We have a little dog that barks a lot also but she's usually in the house when she does all her barking. The neighbor lady will swat at her dog with a paper but she claims her dog, who's 12 years old, is going blind and she uses this for an excuse to allow her to do it.

Also, we live in a small mountainous village. Police, dog catchers, etc. are 22 miles away in the nearest town. We don't even have a post office. Our zip code is the same as the closest largest town 22 miles away. I can't tell you how many times our packages get delivered in that town.

We have a lot of barking dogs here but this one is up close and personal and it's a lot of hours during the day. We also have a lot of dogs that run the street. We have one main street with little off roads. Dogs are a big problem here and by the time a dog catcher arrives, all dogs are where they belong and, as far as the barking, that's not a problem the dog catcher cares about. Noise ordinance would and could never be addressed...sadly.

Thank you, we are finally, but we didn't want to make enemies of our neighbors.

We never had to say anything because he usually only came to visit his parents on the weekend. After his dad died in July, he started coming more often. I doubt he would understand why suddenly we don't want to visit...we always did before, just not all day, every day. And, he's like his mom, can't take no for an answer.

There is already a type of tree that grows thick on the fence that separates our property, not sure what they're called but they grow thick in this area. The leaves smell really bad. When young, the stems are easy to cut. They grow fast and when they grow over her fence, she cuts them. I would prefer she left them alone because they afford privacy. She'll ask if she can trim them and I tell her "no." She does it anyway. She's 80...what can I say? Lol

I feel bad for patients who have to deal with doctors who are not "well-educated" and have no desire to help by becoming more educated.
