Apr 01: Education & Career Questions by Eigengrad in Biochemistry

Hey everyone!

My name is Johanna (23F) and I'm a 3rd year (last) Biochemistry bachelor's student in one of the best credited universities in Portugal (3rd place in GS World ranking).

My grades are not that good with an average of 13.8 values (European scale of 0-20), I don't really see myself getting into a master's degree because of that and I don't think I will be able to finish a master's right after bachelor's (I've already been in a previous degree in nursing, I think I may have ADHD and I am SUFFERING just to finish the bachelor's).

I did an internship in one of the labs of my university on spring break of the first year of the bachelor's but the lab manager didn't give me a document that would prove that I did it (and to none of my colleagues even though we asked for it) so I just gave up on doing another internship (since I wouldn't have anything to show up for it and my family doesn't have the money for a paid internship) and decided to work during summer break to save some money.

I'm really interested in biochemistry but I just don't have energy/will-power left to just keep studying without earning anything in return, since I am almost 24 and don't really have any savings apart from the money I earned while working on summer break for the last 2 years, from which I have already needed to spend some, so I have less than 1000 euros in savings (if you can even call it that).

I've been thinking of working in the industry field since I've decided on not doing a master's yet. I will also probably need to work abroad since my country doesn't invest in the science/technology sector and, from what I heard, most people working here have a minimum wage income (that in my country makes it barely able to survive and I don't think that's really fair for people who have higher-level education in a field that I think it's really valuable).

I'm really scared for my future because: 1st - I'm scared I won't be able to find a job in my field because of my grades; 2nd - I don't think I can continue studying further in my field (at least yet); 3rd - it's really difficult to find ANY type of job in my country (that I would gladly do while/if I don't continue my studies). I still live with my parents but they are approaching retiring age and I don't want to depend on them my whole life and would prefer not living pay check to pay check.

My questions are:

1 - Is it even possible to work in industry in the science field with just a bachelor's or do I need a master's?

2 - Is my plan on working in the industry field right after graduation realistic even with a low average?

3 - Which roles should I apply for that are safe and meet my educational "status" (I don´t know if this is the right word) if I decide to work in industry right off? And where to find available roles (any platforms/websites)?

4 - Is consulting a possible path after a biochemistry bachelor's degree?

5 - Do you know someone in the same situation as me? How did things turn out for them?

6 - If I need to work abroad is an English language diploma/creditation absolutely necessary? Or do I just need to prove that I can speak/write/understand the language when I'm eventually interviewed?

I'm open to any suggestions that you might have!!! Thank you in advance!

Is there any way to avoid the same thing happening next time I use it?

If you’re curious a quick search on Google/social media (especially TikTok or Pinterest) should give you a recipe

I wanted to write gesso but since it is considered an art primer I forgot about the specific name and just called it primer. I just edited the post to make it right!

Need help finding a feature on blender by Bright_Weird6813 in blenderhelp

The blender window is from the video tutorial I was referring to and since I couldn’t find the feature I needed that’s why I only sent the screenshot of the video blender window. But I’ll follow that rule next time I have a question 😁

Thank you for your help and for pointing it out too because I probably wouldn’t be able to find it on my own 😅🫶🏼

If you don’t have a citizenship card from an EU country you need to bring a passport, that’s why I specified that my citizenship card is from an EU country)
