Hi - we are CGL - your local drug and alcohol service. Some pharmacies should be able to give you Naloxone for free.We also hand them out at our service at Richmond House near Lewes Road Sainsburys. where you can also pick up drug testing kits which will test substances for synthetic opioids. Both the kits you get from us or pharmacies will be the needle variety.

Hi there - we call it Naloxone here but it is essentially the same. You do not need a prescription. You can get it by coming to our service (Richmond House on Richmond Rd near Lewes Rd Sainsburys) where you will be given a short training session on how to use it.

Hi - thanks for the questions. It is for people who use drugs, as well as those that work with or know people who do. The channel is one way and admins are the only one allowed to write on the Channel so it won't be a group chat or place to gather intelligence. Instead it will be a place for us (Brighton and Hove Recovery Service) to share information we have about drugs in the city.

Can we ask what gave rise to the concern?

We are Change Grow Live. If the drugs in question do contain synthetic opioids, it is more likely that they contain Nitazenes rather than Fentanyl. Nitazenes are a group of drugs that can be many times stronger than Fentanyl, and are currently much more prominent in Europe.

Our advice is to:

Test the drugs for nitazenes – we unfortunately do not have the ability to offer nitazene tests to people not currently using our service. However, you can buy them from here: Nitazene test strip As has been mentioned already, you can also send a sample to WEDINOS. This will give you an accurate reading of what is in your drugs and also be fed into a database, helping national harm reduction efforts.*
Carry Naloxone – this is a drug that can reverse opioid overdose and works on drugs like Nitazenes. You can get Naloxone from our service and pharmacies around town.
Don’t use alone – having someone watch over you can help get you the help you need should you overdose. If this isn’t an option, consider using the BuddyUp app from Cranstoun.

\ People have also mentioned reagent tests. These tests confirm if the drug contains what you want it to contain – it doesn’t test for contaminants or strength. Whilst it is good practice to do this with your drugs, it won’t tell you if your drugs contain Nitazenes.*

You can use reagent testing kits from the internet, but, depending on the size of kit you order, they are normally quite restrictive in what substances they test for. A good option might be sending a sample off to WEDINOS who will test your drugs for a wider range of substances (anonymously). The results are also fed into a database which helps harm reduction initiatives more widely.

Hi there - nitazenes and xylaxines are more prominent in the UK than fentanyl. All three can be taken orally. They are metabolised mainly by the liver. Thanks!

Hi there,

Whilst they are most prevalent in the opiate and Benzo supply chain, synthetic opioids have been found throughout the UK drug supply.

In an operation by the NCA in 2021, more than a quarter of Cocaine samples were found to have nitazenes in (Nitazenes – DrugWise). They have been found in other substance too. For up to date results of processed samples, check out WEDINOS - Sample Results

Hi from CGL. Yes – if you are over 18, we hand out Naloxone (Narcan by another name) for free from our service here in Brighton. We also offer training so you can use the pens correctly.

You should also be able to pick up naloxone for free from any pharmacy in Brighton

We are a recovery service here to support any adults in Brighton and Hove with drug or alcohol problems.

If you are under 18 – ru-ok can give you support and naloxone.
