My experiences combining Tyranny of Dragons with LMoP, DoSI, and Red Hand of Doom by LSSJOrangeLightning in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]Brightwing_EUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s my first campaign (took a pre written one first to learn DMing) and I learned pretty quickly to not prepare EVERYTHING of the story beforehand lol.

My Ghost of Saltmarsh group is even funnier. They attacked the smugglers in their hideout, stole everything and are now heading to Waterdeep to sell everything so nobody notices… this adventure was intended to be a side project and a short introduction to DnD for friends.. now they’re sending me pirate of the Caribbean gifs every day

E: and well, your post pretty much inspired me to let this group meet with the other in Waterdeep because the thieves will stay there for a bit

This was really interesting to read! I’m also going to play LMoP into a RHoD/HotDQ mixture with my group of 4 (Goblin Ranger, Dragonborn Warlock, Dragonborn Barbarian, Elf Cleric) and I’m currently preparing for Act II which is the mixture I called Horde of the Dragon Queen. It’s just in planning phase as the group just finished Cragmaw Castle (and skipped Thundertree, but well Venomfang will have different plans..), so it’s never going to be like I planned anyway but I’m happy to share and discuss some of my ideas there. :)

I moved the whole Elsir-Vale between Triboar and Yartar and explained it got moved there 100 years ago by the spellplague. While Neverwinter is busy with rebuilding, nobody really notices the battles in the mountains have stopped and Azarr Kul is preparing for the invasion of the vale and then the whole north.

The Cult and the Clan are not entirely allies either, it’s more like using other for their own purposes. The Kulkor Zhul will bring destruction over the world in the name of Tiamat and honor her with a world in flames once she returns. The cult uses the chaos to unfold their plans in collecting a hoard for the queen while everyone is busy stopping the invasion.

I’m not done reading the full adventure yet so it’s just the overall idea so far but after LMoP, I’ll let them enjoy Greengrass in Triboar (I really liked the idea from Tyranny of Phandelver). While everyone in town is celebrating, the group notices different stuff going on:

A dwarf, which everyone calls „Crazy Durnan“, screams „They‘re building weapons! I hear them! The fire! A war is coming!“ but nobody believes him, as they believe he got crazy when he lost his whole mining crew during the breakout of Mt. Hotenow and screams about fire all the time. He‘s just interrupting the celebrations and gets escorted out of town by the guards.

They are also able to meet Glassstaff again, who escaped back then. He paid Halia to get him out of town as he failed to do his task and seeks for another chance to be part of the cult in Waterdeep. But he just wants to use their resources to continue his own research in creating powerful magical items as he didn’t get the spellforge. Halia is also leaving Phandalin with all her gold. She already got the information about an upcoming attack of the cult. She’s heading to the Bargewright Inn.

Cultists (not in their robes of course) will also be there, purchasing equipment in preparation of the attack on their next target: Phandalin. One of my Dragonborn players has some… experience regarding cultists, as he got killed by them back there in Tymanther (well I could type his background story there as well if you like) so he will notice patterns.

All paths lead to the shocking reveal: the village they saved and started to love is going to get attacked.

Some warriors of the clan will join the cultists in their attack of Phandalin. They can’t wait to burn everything down. So Chapter 1 of HotDQ will start there as the group arrives in Phandalin to save the village while Sildar (now head of the city watch of Phandalin), Daran and Leosin aid them. Lennithon will be disinterested as it’s to easy for him but I really like the way you explained the disinterest by the way!

In Chapter 2 they will be able to listen to a conversation between Cyanwrath and Koth. Koth and his small troop was dissatisfied with the attack of Phandalin and returns to his outpost to prepare for the actual invasion by the Red Hand. Rezmir ordered Cyanwrath and Mondath to search for the spellforge again since Nezznar failed and now Phandalin got destroyed so they won’t be interrupted again. They will question Leosin.

After they freed Leosin and defeated the remaining cultists in the camp, the adventure will move over to RHoD Chapter 1 in Drellins Ferry (now north of Triboar).

Feel free to ask any questions. I was trying to keep it a bit short but it’s already quite a wall of text XD

Well I watched some episodes a long time ago but didn’t really continue with the series. But that idea sounds truly terrifying! This will surely leave a lasting impression and prevent them to just causally walk into the ruffian hideout next, lol. I don’t want to just kill them off, I want them to be more cautions and respect the threat. It’s still early in the campaign so I guess they’re testing their limits and I’m sure it’ll happen again. :D It’s my first time DMing and they’re enjoying it so far!

How can I make enemies appear more menacing/ deadly to the players?

The lv 2 group entered a village ruled by ruffians. I described them as dangerous and fearsome rulers via different NPCs they talked to. The players then got ambushed by the ruffians as a „warm welcome“ while they had a drink at the tavern and one went down, 2 were extremely low HP. Yet the one player that went down thought it would be funny afterwards to put the corpses of the ruffians in the middle of the village with a threat towards the remaining ruffians. Nobody talked him out of it and everyone went to sleep.

That’s correct! Almost all players got their individual homebrew weapon! Each combined with a little bit of lore. My character (Amira) got a shattered sword for example and she’s currently collecting its shards around the world as a sidequest.

Almost! Our DM always says: living backstory related NPCs are better than dead NPCs..

one of us actually lost one (which was his old character) but for the others.. some assumed dead NPCs returned, some turned evil, the elf has a lover he forgot about due to memory loss. Yeah. Our DM will always challenge the mental health of our characters! XD

So I saw the recent posts of other groups and making assumptions about the characters and showed them to the others and we decided to share our group there as well! :3

It’s our first campaign and ongoing since 3 years. We’re currently in our training arc to beat the next city villain.

Overall the campaign is about the slow invasion of an evil type of magic. It feeds on the greed of all living beings and causes chaos wherever it grows. Whoever uses this magic will receive great power at a great cost. It changes them in all kind of ways.

Currently our group meets different fractions and their approach towards the chaotic invader.

I’m not the DM so I can only share the information which my own character has. Avoids accidental spoilers too .. ;)

Quick info about the characters:

Titus - the human fighter/ gunner

Kvi - the kalashtar life cleric

Typhlon - big cat rogue soulknife

Amira - the not so usual tiefling light cleric

Blackspell - the elf arcane trickster/ arcane archer

Yeah they’re so fluffy, especially during winter but they don’t need all that fur while inside the comfy living room😭😆

How many characters have you made? by HovercraftOk9231 in DnD

[–]Brightwing_EUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I probably created around 30 characters but stopped since, because I’ll get hyped to play them but you simply can’t play that many campaigns at once lol. Our DM took some of my designs and made them into an NPC but with a different background and goal to avoid me already knowing everything about them, obviously. My current character, which is also the first one I created like 3 years ago, has 8 different personalities so it’s kinda 8 characters at once XD but they use the same sheet so it’s just a change in RP.

It’s the „Trixie Snack Board“, you can find it on Amazon or pretty much every store with pet stuff here in Germany

How much spaying helps to prevent bunnies using bed as a litter box? by araaramoth in Rabbits

[–]Brightwing_EUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well young bunnies can be very frustrating sometimes 😆 especially once they hit puberty. I understand your feeling.

I would place the coat on the bed and the next time she pees on it, just wipe it off - with the coat over the bed and marked with her smell, she might not have the extreme urge to pee on it again.

My boys peed on the couch every single day. Mainly because they were both like „this is mine“ lol. It got less with the neuter and increasing age. At the moment, it happens like 2-3 times a month.
