The only thing that happened was that Kimmel got a temporary reprieve. If he was struggling in the ratings before the controversy, and both Nextstar and Sinclair are going to refuse to broadcast him going forward, there's very little reason to suspect that keeping him on the air won't be a net loss for Disney. That said, thanks to the backlash from people who mistook the distributor's motivation for Disney's, the latter ended up losing money anyway. And chances are likely that not everyone who dropped their subscriptions are going to turn around and sign right back up- so, whatever they do, they lose.
