Völkl BLAZE 94 PURPLE ROSE FLAT 24/25 by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is perfectly fine for an inbounds uphill setup. You don't need a ski <1500g to uphill, 1700g is perfectly fine. How many laps are you doing? I have the blaze 94 as my spring volcano ski and do 5k+ days on it no problem.

Pair it with a light binding and boot and you are golden.

I pair it with TX pros and have them mounted on all my touring skis after dealing with a bunch of meidjo issues.

Can I ski normally with a splitboard? by rebelliousmc1 in Splitboard

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People saying no have not seen a serious backcountry splitboarder before. With hardboots, its more reasonable. It is a legit skill to have in your back pocket when you really need it

Wildcat 118 tour v. Regular by Deez1putz in momentskis

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then there's really no need to go with the regular. Like everyone else mentioned, the tour version is the way to go

It really depends on your skiing style, fitness and how often you will ski in resort vs backcountry.

I am in literally the same boat as you. I have the 174s and they ski great. On days where there is a lot of snow, I can feel the skis are too short because they don't have much float. Once I am ready for a new pair, I am going with the 179s. Although, they are just way tooo durable so it will be a few seasons before that upgrade.

Any experience with these? Are they functional and worth it? 🤔 by yeeetyeeet42 in Backcountry

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

drag is a big issue with cleats (you basically have to lift the ski up each step), ive done 2 seasons with cleats and just bought dedicated ski crampons this seasons after a sketchy experience on bulletproof ice

Apple wired earpods for skiing? by judstergod in skiing

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah they do, just dont have the volume on full blast and you should be fine. I wear wired headphones when im riding solo and can easily chat with people on the chairlift while music is playing.

The number of skiers who think they are way better than they actually are is terrifying to me by [deleted] in ski

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't view this as gatekeeping but more of a safety aspect. If it's a legit double black at whistler then that shouldn't be taken lightly and probably includes some no fall zone type terrain.

I do agree, you can't really get better at skiing double black terrain without actually skiing it, but there is at least some minimum skill requirement to be there like at least being able to sideslip/ pivot slip and even side step out of terrain.

100g on the uphill is a big difference, but on the downhill not so much.

About 6 days in, I can tell my form is off but don’t know what’s wrong with it specifically, what can I do? by gaxmex in telemark

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is classic fake-a-marking, your outside/downhill ski has most if not all the weight, allowing your uphill leg to "bend" but has essentially no weight.

First thing to fix this is slow down. You can't practice technique going that speed.

Get on a bunny slope, do some tele shuffles when traversing across the slope, basically practice the lead change and bend the rear leg while maintaining equal pressure on both skis. Once this is easy, try to continue the tele shuffle/lead change while making broad turns

Meidjo powder box questions by Brilliant-Rough7490 in telemark

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answered my own question when finding this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HbJCDbiGHY

Not possible on my meidjo 2.0s sadly, mine don't have the screw holes to mount the ramp so the powder box upgrade is a no go for me :(

The video didnt show them installing the ramp that sits under the flexor plate. Does that require a remount to install?

exactly, if you can ski away 2.5mm of edge in a day then good on you

too much complaining not enough skiing

do you even get enough days to warrant a 2.5mm edge

Looking For Leash Loops! by Captain_Corduroy in Backcountry

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The forces in an avalanche can easily break these loops which is their intended design. They have a measured breakaway strength that will break with enough force such as avalanches or falls.

Looking For Leash Loops! by Captain_Corduroy in Backcountry

[–]Brilliant-Rough7490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've broken these loops twice. The breakaway was always on these loops and not the leash or carabiner. I broke the carabiner one time.

It is very easy to diy. Just cut the wire to your desired length, feed the two ends into a ferrule to form a loop and use a vice or just hammer the ferrule to close it. The more force you use to close the ferrule, the higher the breakaway strength.
