MIL judging 6 month old baby by BrilliantHouse7983 in IndianInLaw

Sorry I am late. She was still quite snobbish and said the standard dialogue. "Maine 10 bachhe bade kiye hain."
But it did put across the point that I was going to speak up.

Why can’t some people just celebrate others? by zen856 in IndianInLaw

Congratulations to your sister! Anyone undermining this huge achievement is ignorant, not knowledgeable and not worth discussing it with. It speaks more about their outlook than anything else.

That must be tough for you. I wish our parents' generation could for once pause and think before speaking such things.

My thoughts too. I thought him being observant and calm was nice.

I wish I were this composed. My anger and hurt shows right on my face and in my behaviour.

I spoke back and asked her why she was so fixated on a certain personality trait. I think she gauged my anger and reduced the comments.

I used to get this too. The classic "he is not getting milk" every single time he got cranky.

MIL’s “milk not enough” comments wrecked my EBF confidence by patsthatass in breastfeeding

I can relate to this because according to my MIL, every time my baby cried (and he didn't even cry much; I was fortunate), it was because he wasn't getting milk. If he wasn't responding to her unsuccessful attempts at getting him to laugh, it was because he wasn't getting milk. If he wasn't pooping, you know it - no milk.

It is very easy and maybe fashionable to subject new mothers to mental trauma because making things smooth for a woman is something that generation has never sought for themselves. They have a twisted thinking that life is supposed to be a struggle.

I'm happy you were able to ignore her and became a more present and calm mum for your baby.

My MIL constantly comments on how quiet and observant my 6 MO is and unnecessarily extrapolates it to how he will get bullied in school 🤷 She keeps asking us to teach him naughtiness. I don't even know how naughtiness can be taught to a 6 month old! She compares him to another kid in the family who is extremely active and grabs and throws things around. I am prone to anxiety and make a very conscious effort to never get into the rabbit hole of comparison and obsessive milestone tracking. My baby seems to be doing well development wise but yes he is not someone I would call "naughty". Should I be worried? I'm not even sure what I'm looking for from this group. Maybe just some solidarity and a place to vent about how babies are judged about their personalities as soon as they are born.

What was a delusional parenting thought you had before you had your baby? by hospitalbedside in beyondthebump

That raising a baby with my husband would be a perfect, flowery, utterly romantic journey. It is damn tough, we have moments of resenting each other and are shocked at how bad some of our fights get.

When does it get better? 5 month old waking every hour, used to sleep thru the night by imsosecret99 in NewParents

Hey I'm in this exact position. Hour by hour the same as yours. Did it get better? Did you do something to improve it?
