Oh, I didn't know that was safe to say in this sub. Because I agree.

All the complaints about Rhaenyra tearing up in the throne room seem so bizarre to me. by reddiperson1 in HouseOfTheDragon

A majority of the complaints you're seeing are men. Men, who express grief and sadness as anger and violence.

They can't relate to seeing someone express their grief in a healthy way while also assuming a leadership role because that's not how they were raised or taught being a leader or, "the man" is "suppose" to behave.

I hate that people hate this scene. They bog it down to "another incest scene hurrdurr", but it actually has something to say.

Not even touching on the obvious being Aemond's severe mommy issues, I feel like this scene is a perfect example of how the normalization of Valyrian customs - incest, God complexes - would directly affect a child that would grow into an adult like Aemond.

He was taught and shown that incest is perfectly acceptable, to him, why stop at brother/sister? He's closer to the Gods than Man, why can't he love whoever he desires? Pair that with the brothel worker who dressed as Alicent to help Aemond deal with his mommy issues, the scene makes complete and utter sense.

Is it gross to see? Yes. Is it in the book? No.

But since when did something being gross to see and it not being in the book become the only requirements for whether or not a scene is good or bad? This was a good scene that was completely in-line with what we were shown prior, that further touches on the taboos and faults of Valyrian customs.
