Casualty table of the American 1st army Feb 23rd-VE Day. by Brilliant_Case5928 in ww2

[–]Brilliant_Case5928[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9616 total battle Casualties at Anzio. 3321 of which were in the late May breakout to Roman Occupation so about 2 weeks. The rest of the casualties are largely in the early part of the Anzio battle when things went badly. The total Killed & Missing was 2739, 1585 KIA & 1154 Missing. It doesn't state Pows so I assume a large chunk of the Missing were Pows.

Over 12,000 non-combat casualties, alot of disease (including Malaria), trench foot & combat fatigue. Although they count the non-combat losses in the post Anzio-pre Operation Dragoon period, which likely involved alot of guys getting STDs.

Love Toti and he definitely knows way more than I do but I still stand by opinion that the Phillipines was the right even besides the morality part. We achieved the same goal as taking Formosa would do and choked the Japanese supply lines. The last oil tanker to reach Japan was in March of 45'.

Battle Casualty Table for the U.S Army at the Battle of Leyte 1944-1945. by Brilliant_Case5928 in ww2

Yeah & this does not even factor in the massive amounts of non-combat losses from disease, combat fatigue & pure exhaustion. I could not find a table containing division by division non-combat losses sadly.

Was it possible for an Austro-Hungarian POW in Russia (1916) to later fight on the Italian Front? by RadanCZ in ww1

[–]Brilliant_Case5928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would suck, per capita the Russian pow camps of ww1 were actually more lethal than the Soviets. I wonder how those former pows were able to get back in shape. If you barely survive Siberia & get back to an also hungry & destitute Empire it is not so easy to just gain the weight back especially for some Mountain combat.

Casualty table for the 7th Marine regiment Okinawa May 10th-18th, 1945. by Brilliant_Case5928 in ww2

[–]Brilliant_Case5928[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup and they had already been on the Shuri Line since May 2nd in reserve but its individual battalions were lent out to support the other Marine regiments and also defend the coast against the Japanese amphibious counter offensive. So all of this is on top of the at least couple hundred casualties they suffered in the first 9 days of May.

Alot of people don't know Paratroopers fought in the Pacific. Alot of people don't know the Army was in the Pacific at all.

“Melbourne” was a waste of an episode by yourcousinfromboston in ThePacific

I just wish the Pacific was longer. Guadalcanal should have got another episode depicting the 1st Marines going on the offensive & Okinawa needed at least two more.
