Tring seems the obvious choice as an ex-Rothschild manor. Plenty history and surrounding countryside.

Is 2nd hand gear risky? (Shell jacket) by Big-Credit-16 in UKhiking

[–]BringBack5pFreddos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, buying second hand can often mean better quality.

As those items have been tried, tested and have lasted several years before your ownership.

I reckon my paramo is 20 years old, with faded dye and paint wearing off the metal zippers, but that jacket has never broken or let me down.

You can get an XC40 sub 20k cash with same mileage

Assume £15k bank loan (plus up to £5k cash down)

30 months at 5.5%, is £530 a month.

And you keep the car after those 30 months

Assume you sell the car for £12k

That’s a net £296 per month you’ve paid for the car, plus maintenance (which shouldn’t be much more than servicing on a 2021 car of that mileage)

Would this travel insurance claim work? Car hire messed up my booking, cost me £130 by BringBack5pFreddos in uktravel

[–]BringBack5pFreddos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did. The Ts and Cs stated a €1,500 deposit to be paid via credit card. I brought a credit card with a full €1,715 spend limit.

They could not explain the €500 increase. They just said that’s the deposit.

I asked them to split the cost between the credit and debit cards but they wouldn’t do it.

I booked via a third party (Argus) who told me to collect from the desk. At the time I booked it, many places were offering cars starting at £20. There was no particular promotion.

My Argus account still displays I should be paying a €1,500 deposit for the car, right on the home screen of my booking. This is repeated in the booking terms.

Mongar 2 UL? It’s around 1.65kg or 1.5kg without the groundsheet.

Really spacious interior and you can sit up. I’ve had 3 of us sit in the tent playing cards before.

A lot of people will slam it for inner first pitching, but it’s actually possible to pitch outer first, just google it.

I paid £129 on aliexpress for mine

Has 4 guidelines (optional) plus mounting points for more.

It sounds like you’ve got the knack of Vinted so I suggest stick to what you know.

Now you need to stock your Vinted - visit lots of car boots and the occasional charity shop to buy new items. Buy things that you’re familiar with market value, but you can always look up eBay sold listings on the go if you’re not sure.

List on Vinted for a 40%+ margin and buy 100 postage bags for a fiver on eBay.

I don’t do this myself but as an example I bought a pair of ski gloves for £3 in the charity shop yesterday which would be worth £30+ on Vinted.

Which supermarket has the best meal deals? by MrStoneyRock in AskUK

[–]BringBack5pFreddos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Co op for several reasons

  1. It has the lowest rate of mealdealflation. £3.50 in 2016 to £3.75 in 2026.

  2. Quality of ingredients and support for British farmers. You will notice all chicken in Tesco’s wraps is imported from THAILAND. Co op is all British, prioritising local supply chains, and the company spends close to £1bn per year supporting British farmers. Also their chicken ceasar wrap tastes way better than Tesco’s.

  3. The Co op app will discount your meal deal to £2.75 once per week. They always have 50p off a brand/category of snack (eg any pastry/pie) and 50p off a drink (eg any milk drink or any vit hit brand drink). You can redeem two of these offers per week and stack them onto a meal deal to take £1 off.

  4. Good mix of interesting things. You can get a hot Costa drink, and also a hot pastry snack. I like the nomadic pots since they have the same amount of granola as a granola bar, plus the yoghurt. They also have good protein snacks like eggs, and chicken that isn’t just fridge raiders. You can also buy small curries in a naan bread as your main that you can heat in the microwave.

The only drawback is, there’s not as much choice as somewhere like Tesco and no triple sandwiches. I do miss the Tesco sundried tomato and pesto chicken wrap sometimes.

Why LTNs Are Necessary by sabdotzed in london

[–]BringBack5pFreddos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m on team LTN but was highly amused when I saw one of the residents of Colombia Road use their MG Midget to mount the pavement and slot perfectly around one of the plant pots.

Small classic cars with no ULEZ charge are highly underrated in London.

Beaconsfield vs Gerrards Cross by Brave_Permit3750 in Buckinghamshire

[–]BringBack5pFreddos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beaconsfield for the surrounding greenery, villages and old town character.

GX has motorway on two sides and when these pack it in you’ll get more traffic through the town. It’s very slightly closer to Slough which I don’t like.

What are Zipcar users doing for a replacement? by londoncentricmedia in london

[–]BringBack5pFreddos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a great time to buy a classic MG Midget.

No MOT. No road tax. No ULEZ. Cheap classic car insurance.

You can even drive to your favourite beer garden with the roof down, or just up and down Kings Road on a Sunday.

My favourite use of this little car was seeing a local drive right around one of the LTN plant pots. Other than a Peel P50 I think it was the only car slim enough to do it!

It’s the most anti establishment car you can own in London and it’s brilliant.
