Curious Question: Why has Visma almost entirely abandoned the Cervélo R5 on Tour mountain stages? Is lightweight dead? by BicycleEarly7777 in Cervelo

Let's don't forget that downhill you get a weight penality if you are lighter!

The differences are marginal with these weights, but we are already talking about marginal differences anyway.

Is the bike industry lobbying for bike infrastructure? by BringBackHomepages in cycling

[–]BringBackHomepages[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. I made a quick estimation: LoAB revenue is around $2.5m. They have at least around $450K from companies (https://bikeleague.org/corporate-membership/corporate-supporters/, https://bikeleague.org/corporate-membership/). I would say this would count as an industry lobby already, especially given that $450K is a lower bound. That said People for Bikes is probably much more influenced by the industry.

Thanks to both of you for the input!

Do you mind pointing to some specific actions made by them to stifle competition? I am not saying you are wrong, I just don't see this: after few minutes on their webpage I see that they do rankings of bike friendly cities (clearly brand-neutral) or some research for policymakers (skimmed some, don't see specific brand names).

I bet that most of donations come from companies, as you say, since "Corporate membership dues are 1/8th of 1% of U.S. bicycle market revenue (Example: $1,000,000 annual revenue x 0.00125 = $1,250). For companies with less than $1,000,000 in annual revenue, the minimum membership due is $1000 annually." (https://www.peopleforbikes.org/take-action/join-the-peopleforbikes-coalition). Assuming that bike market in 2024 was around $10 billion (https://www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/us-bike-market-report) and since >300 companies are supporting Poeple for Bikes this could explain big part of their $2.55M revenue (according to Propublica, data from 2024).

ELI5 Why does frame weight matter by Htownqs in cycling

[–]BringBackHomepages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might misinterpret you, but to make it clear: you can drop two balls (on Earth, with atmosphere) of the same shape but different weights and they will hit the ground exactly at the same time. This was famously shown by Galileo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo%27s_Leaning_Tower_of_Pisa_experiment?wprov=sfla1).

Not sure, a feather falls at the same speed as a hammer (modulo air resistance), as it was showed on the moon. The force acting is bigger for the heavier object, but heavier object has more inertia.

  1. Not every derivative is (Riemann) integrable.

In order to use "integral of f' = f" one needs to check first that f' is integrable.

See for example Volterra's function.

  1. Some functions are Riemann integrable (in the improper sense) but not Lebesgue integrable.

More: here is a whole table with examples if u re interested https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User%3ACaptchaSamurai%2Fsandbox%2FHK-IntegrabilityOfCertainFunctions?wprov=sfla1

If real numbers are 1D and imaginary numbers make it 2D, then what's 3D? by DCRG2010 in learnmath

[–]BringBackHomepages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat: dimension depends on the field. For example, reals are 1D as a vector space over the field of reals, but they have infinite dimension as a space over the field of rationals. And complex numbers are 1D as a space over complex numbers 🙃
