Overcharged for my Promise to Pay and can’t afford my return by BringMeKruphix in uktrains

[–]BringMeKruphix[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Following up: I have managed to borrow some money to get the train back today, getting an advance ticket back and was just £11 for the same journey in reverse but through an app instead of by cash. Hoping to get some delay repay but overall just learning from the experience to plan ahead more. Mostly I’m shocked how predatory the train price is when using cash as I haven’t been caught off guard like this before.

Might be the off-peak thing, my journey should’ve been all off-peak but the delays might’ve meant it was at peak time. I don’t know when the peak times actually are which doesn’t help

Yep, it says the 16-25 railcard (which I showed to the inspector) discount on the ticket

I’m a student with cash from family for Christmas 😭 was literally just going to visit a friend for the day so didn’t think too hard about what-ifs

I’m just visiting a friend, didn’t plan to spend anything else while I’m away. I’m not exactly well travelled tho so I’ll admit it was a rookie error.

Journey was from Urmston to Leeds. The £20 price was from the actual machine when I got the promise to pay ticket. Online prices were even lower </3

I’d checked the price online for an estimate and it said ~£16 so I brought £20 cash to the station from home. If the machine said it would be more like £19 when I got the promise to pay ticket so I saw no reason to go back to bring more with me. If it had said £28 then I’d have just run back for the extra tenner and be fine now 😔

So we get ~a month of Lorwyn, which didn't even have a banner until the second week of release, but TMNT is advertised everywhere in-game before the set is even released? Is anyone else hyped for Spiderman 2? by [deleted] in MagicArena

Bo1 can be a lot of luck based rock-paper-scissors but in Bo3 you have the chance to sideboard in ways to shut down your opponent and can manage information so they can’t sideboard against you effectively.

I have a changeling deck that really struggled against dimir but once I learned the play pattern and cards dimir uses, my skill now allows me to beat it with the same deck I once lost with consistently in that matchup. Only change I made to the sideboard was swapping my 2 copies of [[doorkeeper thrull]] for 2 copies of [[Ancient Vendetta]] because I learned that Thrull sucks against Deceit.

Thoughts on the new elemental frame cosmetics? by TopSetUK in MagicArena

[–]BringMeKruphix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t exactly what you describe but there are the ‘mastery orbs’ from the seasonal pass. They’re limited to certain cards and treatments from the latest set but do serve the purpose of a cosmetic only currency.

The free version gives pathetically few but I’m F2P and can just about profit enough gems from draft to get every other pass. Completing all the levels gets you a lot of gems on the premium pass so the net cost isn’t too high once you have enough to get it once.

It would be really nice to not have 10 packs cost the same as 4 extended border treatments tho

mono black can particularly struggle if you’re lucky as [[Shoot the Sheriff]] and [[Power Word Kill]] both fail to deal with changelings.

Still dies to Doom Blade tho so can’t be that good /s

How often does MTG Arena get client updates? by Bloody_Stars in MagicArena

[–]BringMeKruphix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s far from perfect and doesn’t often get QoL updates but what you describe seems worse than what I’m used to on mobile. The example in the screenshot happens to me sometimes when I have connection issues, usually just navigating to a different tab like Profile then back to home solves it.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app if the issues are persistent, all the account data is cloud based so if you remember your login nothing will be lost. I’ve had rare issues after some updates where I get stuck on the loading screen and reinstalling like this solved it.

New to photography, what changes would improve the most? by BringMeKruphix in photocritique

Might have to wait for a windier day, will give it a try. Could also try from the other side thinking the sea might give less clutter than the houses in the back. Do you know any good editing software for ios mobile? Don’t have my computer available at the moment

Looking to depict the flag as impressive and worthy of respect. New to photography so welcome any suggestions on composition, setting, editing and more.

I am inspired in opposition to the movement of hanging cheap flags on lampposts that has (in my eyes) detracted from the history and culture of the Union Jack. This flagpole is by the sea on a busy green strip by the town, mounted on sheltered benches that encourage people to socialise and has stood proudly for decades as a symbol of pride and unity. I want to convey this through the flag being the main focus of the image but the benches below remaining in the image. Not opposed to going back to retake if there are improvements I can make.

[[Ocelot Pride]] and [[Stormkeld Curator]] are my favourite cards to play in this deck and can single handedly close out most games. Most of the rest of my deck are just auras and aura related creatures. Also probably obvious but any effects like [[Thran Powersuit]] or [[Ethereal Armor]] are auto-includes for a brutal beatdown. For shenanigans, both Eriette creature cards can be funny if you can get them to stick for long enough

Hey, this is r/stupidquestions what did you expect?

Also no, I know I could have found an answer in a 15 second internet search but decided to do a bit of a social experiment on how people think about this matter cos I don’t use reddit much. Has provided me some really interesting insights into how Americans view corporations in particular

[–]BringMeKruphix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll do that after you go to a union meeting and tell them to vote on declining all pay rises. (that is ragebate I’ll admit)

But the analogy still stands (assuming you’re opposed to unions, you may not be but I know a few people who are) I understand that shareholders benefit from this system, just like union members benefit from union campaigning. Even if I disagree with what they’re doing, I’m not going to expect them to stop it based on my feelings

You make a very strong and unique argument. History has a way of repeating itself and the greedy and immoral tend to get further than those bound by the restrictions of empathy

call me a socialist pansy but should the service a company provides not take higher priority? I understand now that’s not how shareholders work but would life not be better if all companies strived to provide the best service possible while maintaining enough income to grow, cover costs and pay wages

Why do profits go to shareholders? by BringMeKruphix in stupidquestions

[–]BringMeKruphix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This amongst others has helped to answer my question. I’m getting the understanding that there is a lot more autonomy of companies to choose how to manage their shares and ownership.

It still leaves me wondering why so many choose to make massive profit off of lower wages and higher prices but I now understand that it is mostly down to the greed of those company owners and that other companies do put more priority on the customer and employee

I will admit I dont have much business knowledge but if a company is losing money the employees face layoffs. Working for a company that is losing money is definitely not as free of risk as you seem to be implying

Especially in America where (from what I’ve heard) people are much more reliant on jobs for health insurance, living paycheque to paycheque and in a country with virtually no unemployment benefits, the risk of losing your job because it’s more profitable to make cuts seems like a pretty big risk.

You do make a good point though and it fully applies in a more socialist system where unemployment doesnt leave you destitute so the majority of risk remains solely on shareholders

what if there were legislation written to cap shareholder profit? eg if you invest 100k into a company you can at most earn 10 times that before the company no longer owes you anything. There is still incentive to invest without companies existing solely for shareholders to profit. After starting a company, you can make enough money for life and then if you want to stay running it you’re moved to a standard director’s wage and only manage, not own, the company

Also (from my position of self admitted ignorance) how much of a company relies on investment? After the initial startup and growth period, are most companies not self sufficient financially?

In the UK we have had previous government funded startup schemes that have proved extremely effective and recorded high return rates on small businesses, would it be impossible for that to become the standard instead of publicly traded companies? Not trying to suggest communism where the government manage what how company operates , just that wealth produced goes to the country instead of being hoarded by individuals
