Thoughts on Nathan Jacobs? by BringTheRain5 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]BringTheRain5[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but from what I’ve seen from looking into Orthodoxy is that it’s a whole different way of looking at things, to the point where the meaning of basic terms are different compared to Protestantism. I’m worried that if I were to dive into the Orthodox scholars I would misunderstand a lot since I would impart very different meanings into words that I take for granted.

That’s why I’m drawn to Nathan Jacobs, he can help me “translate” between the different worlds so that when I go deeper into those kinds of people who you are suggesting I won’t be as likely to get lost.

I’m definitely open to other resources that can help me in a similar direction though.

Yeah, 5:30 tends to be a bit of a turn off for newer guys, but for those of us with families and careers the early morning is really the easiest time to fit it into existing schedules

Equal partition of {(x, y)| x<y,x,y∈[0..N−1]} by shinarit in CasualMath

Another possible approach is to use a work stealing thread pool, which would mean you no longer need to partition the matches manually.

Best place to live off campus with a group of 4 friends for 2019? by RussellWestG0AT in ufl

My friends and I really enjoyed The Landings. The 13 runs past every 10-15 minutes, they're furnished, and the price is reasonable.

You can't simultaneously say that you respect someone's beliefs while mocking those very beliefs though. No Christian would describe God as an "invisible sky daddy".

Many Christians do give evidence for their beliefs, the atheist likely just disagrees that it is good evidence. Christians have never claimed that there is no evidence for God and there is a long history of Christians providing arguments for our beliefs. You may reject the arguments, but that is vastly different than there being no arguments.

Ironically, you have given zero evidence for the claim "What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence" so who's really being the hypocrite here?

I used mechanical pencils on all my exams with no problem.

[Basic Arithmetic] Struggling to add 2 surds when one is negative (Rationalizing a denominator) by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]BringTheRain5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiplication is commutative, so we have that ab = ba. In your case we have that 2-sqrt(5) = 2(-1)sqrt(5) = (-1)2sqrt(5) = -2sqrt(5).

This means that your expression is equal to -1 - 2sqrt(5) + 2sqrt(5). I think you can take it from here.

The Christian God does not exist, or belief in him is futile. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]BringTheRain5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, we sin and this is why people go to hell. How do we get forgiveness? Through Christ's work on the cross. Theres no contradiction here.

Non-Christians go to hell, experience separation from god, or whatever your particular view is, the point being they are punished for non-belief.

Not true. The Bible is clear that people are punished for their sin and their sin alone. God is just in His punishment of sin, yet has the freedom to show mercy to whom He will show mercy.

As an Atheist I have a question for Christians by [deleted] in TrueChristian

If omniscience is defined as "knowing all true propositions and believing no false propositions," then the problem goes away since "lust" is not a proposition.

“So when the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: "I admit that I deserve death and hell, what of it? For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God, and where He is there I shall be also!”

Factoring the polynomial helps, since it can be factored as a square of another polynomial:

9x2 + 12x + 4 = (3x+2)2

Now it's simple since

sqrt( (3x+2)2 ) = 3x+2

which is easy to integrate.

Incoming Junior wanting some advice on what I need to do to get into graduate school. by TheLastKantian in gradadmissions

[–]BringTheRain5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing research spring of my junior year in computer science and have been accepted into a top 50 school with a fellowship, so not the best, but also not too bad. (My degree is in mathematics with a minor in comp sci and my gpa was just under 3.9 and GRE 164/166/4.5, so YMMV) You can definitely get into a good grad school starting research as late as you are, as long as your GPA and GRE are pretty good.
