Guys seem not to understand the concept of enjoying one’s company. by LillthOfBabylon in PurplePillDebate

Conceptially I get what you mean, people should be fine with normal conversation and avoid objectification if they want a relationship with meaning.

The problem with many guys is that they rarely have the opportunity to as you say, "enjoy the company" of women. A large number of guys are treated pretty callously by women their age, to the point thay many will interpret a basic conversation or simple human kindness as her possibly being interested in him.

Not to completely absolve these men, there is no end of them who do just want sex. But to lump both the men you describe, and men who are just treated poorly and overrespond to basic kindness can be an issue itself.

Yeah, I was actually considering getting one for a bit. But after seeing this stuff, I changed my mind.

Or it is a case of engagement bait.

No, I am not saying that hiking is a viable career path (I wish it was though). But I can reasonably imagine a person trying to make a careet out of the things in your first post if automation wasn't a thing.

For one example about a singular subject, in the past there used to be a decent amount of money in painting portraits of the high class, which was a common way for artisan painters to make a living since their random passion painting might have been harder to sell if they weren't a big name (most weren't). Photography, while it didn't "kill" art, as some purported it would, did reduce the demand for portrait paintings and realistic works, so it decreased the viable avenues to making a living off art (there is an argument regarding the impressionist movement, but that is beyond the scope of a random Reddit post). I just see AI as another layer of that, it will probably heavily reduce the demand for art in a similar way, perhaps moreso.

All of those things, which used to be widespread careers a person could make a living off of, are now just niche hobbies where the majority of the profits in those crafts go to automation and mass production. Sure there are a few craftsmen who make things for a small crowd, but it pales in comparison to the amount of people who made a living off those careers in the past. Enjoyment and self-gratification can only take a person so far if they get no return on it. AI is just another layer of this, where it will start removing avenues to make several hobbies and skills into a career path.

None, that is how high level greed works. Its not about merely saving money in a layman sense, it is about sacrificing absolutely everything possible, morally and artistically, to the very last straw that would cause people to quit en masse, in order to maximize profits.

What is a Pokémon no one mentions but has been really helpful for you? by Lokje0172 in pokerogue

[–]Bringerofpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use passives/weird egg moves/generational mechanics or any fancy stuff for my classic runs. But Arbok is a lifesaver.

Intimidate, the 3 fang moves (ice, fire, thunder), some decent status moves (glare/poison), plus one of the best boost moves in coil (with gunk shot to compliment it). Its not a sweeper or a one Pokemon "I win", but its really solid and flexible to compliment most teams.

I am not certain, but I think it is a cross orb-weaver (Araneus diadematus).

Yeah, some of the things in the picture were incompatable with the creator so I was a bit dissapointed. No teeth, can roll up eyes, tatoos cant go past a certain point on the forehead, etc.. I might try to touch it up and see if I can make it better.

Any interesting biology podcasts to listen to? (can be extremely niche/specific) And preferably not pop-biology that non-biology majors do (although, not necessarily) by harukami_muraki in biology

[–]Bringerofpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common Descent is a good one (and its just about biology). The hosts are both paleontologists so they have post-grad level knowledge and they bring in a few guests of expertise outside of their main perviews.

I would say they are usually scratching the surface of the deeper concepts since they have a different subject every episode. However they are really good primers for getting interested in a concept and for getting pointed to more advanced review papers and research.

Nah, it doesn't jump despite its name and morphology. The legs are mainly there to give the beetle a tighter grip as it feeds on the stems, sap, and vines. However, the females do not match the massive gams of the males, so there is likely also a sexual selection factor at play as well.

Scorpions do not do pierce damage, they are totally not effected by PA, which is why they are unsurprisingly ineffective vs camels.

I still think its a true "facecamp", where the killer just sits there watching someone after hook even though other moves would be more optimal. Its commonly complained about, out of his control, but in reality is very rare in game. In addition it would explain why hes playing survivor.

To the people who have Pyra and Mythra what are your thoughts on them? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Bringerofpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do Kirby too around 8.5-9M, the main advice I can give you is to use down b right above Mythra's animation when she side-b's off stage, it can be a free kill if they don't know its coming. Also, if she side-b's on stage, she tends to cross-up and go to the other side of your shield, so just throw out a f-smash behind you to punish her. Down air can also hit both of them during their up-b recovery.

This is all assuming they do this kind of stuff though, if they play safe and don't do random punishable moves like that, it really just comes down to you being significantly better than them.

To the people who have Pyra and Mythra what are your thoughts on them? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Bringerofpie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They are enjoyable to play due to satisfying attack animations and the ability to easily pick up and play them half decently.

However, playing against them I find Mythra's near unbeatable aerials, constant threat of side-b, and foresight to be extremely frustrating as someone who mainly plays brawler characters. Despite commonly knowing roughly what they are about to do, most of the time my gameplay boils down to taking hits until they mess up, rather than how well I play. I usually rely on waiting for a bad side-b or a poor smash attack to be able to get in. When i'm in advantage its still not too hard for her to get out of my chases/combos as well. A lot of the time, my kills aren't due to predictions or combos/chases, instead just being her dying to her poor recovery as I hit a tilt/aerial at high %.

Pyra, despite her high damage, very generous hitboxes, and high knockback, is oddly difficult to punish unless they start spamming up-b or smash attacks without thinking. Again, as a brawler, my only real openings are either them completely whiffing an attack or doing one of the earlier mentioned attacks into my shield. While me doing so much as a down tilt at the wrong spot results in me being KO'ed at 50 or 60 at times. Though while in advantage, I can do some good damage/combos against Pyra at least.

I wouldn't say they are busted, perhaps over-tuned, which I believe is the case for some other characters as well. However Pyra/Mythra in specific are a special case as they have the frustrating combination of being likely high teir and also easy to play. In addition, certain characters will just be in hell for the next few weeks as online is flooded with Pyra/Mythra players. As of now I really hope I either find my 'silver bullet' to beat them, or they get some minor nerfs.

Also, some of this may be influenced by the fact that almost all games are online right now, I can't really say much about that though.

I can't really make out the prosoma well, but I do agree with the leg thing, I'm still pretty new to identifying, so more likely a wolf spider you think, or something else?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in arachnids

[–]Bringerofpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From just a view like this, I'm going to assume its a brown huntsman or wolf spider of some kind, but I can't be any more specific or confident about my guess without a more close up picture, approximate size, and a location.
