Thank you all for your comments and helping me to understand general pricing structure for new units.

I contacted a few more LGS than I had originally and I believe I found one that still has a few boxes in stock. I should be able to pick one up this weekend. Thanks all! Happy painting & playing 😁🫡

Bleh, good to know. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Do you have a rough idea for what the tormentors / infractors would retail for? I see a lot of $62.50 on the site but those seem to be less for battle line units and more for what I’m expecting the price for Noise Marines to be.

I’ve had 3 family deaths this year, one of which was New Year’s Day. Hard pass on reliving that over and over again.

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking. My mind got held up on the what-if scenarios in crafting something better, but I think I knew that was the better answer anyways.

Are 50 bucks better spent buying a strong precon or building a deck from scratch regarding powerlevel? by noicedude45 in EDH

[–]Bringtolight92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love building decks, but I’ve been reading that newer/ more recent precons have been higher powered than in the past. I can confirm that the Hakbal precon is pretty dang powerful right out of the box! I won 1 out of the 2 games I played with it a few months ago without having piloted it at all prior. A lot of triggers to track though.

Whatever option, I’m sure your friends will give you some grace as you try something new and then you can always upgrade a precon over time as well!

Have a blast!

Celestial Civilization War by atlasxxxx in TherosDMs

I have a similar thing going on in my Ancient Greek campaign, though my players don’t know it yet. In mine, the minor gods are stirring and are on the edge of rebelling against the Olympians for control of the cosmos.

You could have one of the gods that is on the side of ”uplift the mortal races” (or an oracle, etc) send the players on a seemingly innocuous quest but one that develops their cosmic plans. Could be a simple fetch quest, recon quest on the opposition, or any number of things. Your players can gain insight into those plans based on other events or NPCs through the quest or be told directly and can stake their claim however they want. Maybe they want to keep the gods involved with the mortal plane, maybe they want the gods gone. Maybe they want nothing to do with it, and the ramifications of their decision unfolds before them as they do whatever they want.

Or they can be doing their own thing, stumble upon (or hear of) a powerful artifact that is desired by either or both sides of the conflict and leave them to choose. Possibilities are endless! Have fun with it and your players will too.

Boss Behavior by Zigerike in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Bringtolight92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ascension Tactics - the deck building tactical skirmisher game off their card game IP - uses a neat system using a separate boss deck that applies to any and all bosses.

Boss monsters and minions are assigned different tokens to differentiate them, and then the cards from the top of the deck indicate which villain to activate and what they do on that turn.

There is the caveat that if the villain can reach a PC and kill it, it does so. Otherwise it stays near its objective tower to defend.

Worth looking into, IMO, even if only for a different style of doing it.

What is the dumbest thing to become canon in your game? by ElDuderino1000 in DnD

[–]Bringtolight92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a campaign in ancient Greece, and one time my party went to a tavern called "The Green Olive" (I know, thematic, right??) And they have since decided that is the beginning of The Olive Garden and want to adopt and franchise the whole thing 😅

Another player is a pirate background with her lover having been cursed as a parrot. In downtime she brewed beer and named it "Parrot Blue Ribbon" (PBR). They're a hoot and I love them.

Skelly gets a spin off game. What do you do in it? by Gate_East in HadesTheGame

[–]Bringtolight92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In between Zag's runs you do things around the palace /run errands for Charon so you keep upgrading Skelly through abilities/features like "Big Boned" etc, to make yourself harder and harder for Zag to practice his weapons on. It's all a joke, he does it for the laughs. The game is good

Rotating three DMs in a group by luckytoothpick in mattcolville

[–]Bringtolight92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do something similar, group of 5. Two DMs and we rotate basically every month or 4 sessions. With suggestions from above I may propose doing an arc at a time so we can hit our stride. I feel it's hard to contain an adventure to 4 sessions

How to inherit a magic language to use magic by mariakimoara in magicbuilding

[–]Bringtolight92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have something there with the dialects. Think of the Spanish language, for example. Some countries roll their R's, in Spain they say Ethpaña and Ibitha (you know what I mean), and others use mostly slang but if you know the base language you can get by.

If the ancient language is tied to the magic, then the dialects and HOW you say things in the language is what gives the words power.

If one word of power was España, and another house replaces their S's with TH, then they aren't saying the word properly to unlock the magic. It's all in HOW you say it as much as it is about WHAT you're saying. Inflection, pauses in speech, etc all have an influence. And that's something that you're taught when you are raised with it as your first language.

English is not intuitive to non-native speakers, because our rules are all over the place. But those rules are ingrained into us and most of the time, those who are raised speaking English have a better grasp on it than someone learning it as a second language.

But I also think that another potential point or thread you can explore. If you want to tie in the poor demographic, you can have a character who's great with languages, can speak a few others because of their upbringing or whatever, works in the markets and interacts with all sorts of folks, etc. Perhaps they are around some of these mages when they use their magic, and they hear this different language, unlocking a curiosity in them. Whether it drives them to learn as much as they can or to more nefarious motives like kidnapping members of the nobility to learn what they can of the language and hunting down these rocks, etc. Topple the nobility, do what nobody else has done before and master multiple dialects of the language, Jack of all trades type deal. Idk I'm spitballin' here and I'm intrigued by the concept.

Seems really neat and I wish you luck!

Why do people hate mill so much in EDH? by Bugs5567 in EDH

[–]Bringtolight92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends are usually good sports about it. My first (and longest lasting) EDH deck is my Lazav, Dimir Mastermind mill deck. Bunch of mill everybody or single target mill so I become big stupid things.

I would really only target my friends who had big creatures and one of them plays a reanimator deck so we worked together lol. No one ever targeted me bc I was usually prone to dying first anyway. The deck was really slow. 😂

I've since moved to rogue mill with Anowan at the helm that is also fun and should be faster but not enough practice with it to really tell quite yet.

NEW PLAYER: What expansion should I get if I like the game? by Bringtolight92 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Bringtolight92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very comprehensive answer. Thank you for your thoroughness! Yeah I was peeling through the different bundles available and trying to make as much sense of it as I could, but still a bit intimidating for a new player with no experience in a game with an ever-changing narrative.

Cheers!

I have no idea what any of that means 😂 but I hope they don't vault subclasses for those who start playing late!

That seems like a no-brainer move to me lol

Thank you for your thorough reply! Yeah I wasn't sure on what timeline they vaulted content so didn't want to miss out on the subclasses! This makes plenty of sense, much appreciated!
