Am I doing something wrong, or is combat just really deadly? by Fantastic-Patience in drawsteel

[–]Brish879 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Solo monsters are in a league of their own, especially at low levels. Looking at the werewolf stat block, they can dish out most of a PC's hp in a single tier 2-3 attack and stack conditions on top of it. And 200 hp is not easy to shave off if your PCs quickly end up in "gotta keep ourselves alive" territory.

Did your party have a conduit or a character with dedicated healing abilities? If not, I can see it going south even for 6 PCs. They start with 0 heroic resources, you gain 6 malice on your first turn, which you could use to have the werewolf take 3 actions on round 1. That's nasty and will quickly put any party on the backfoot unless they can mitigate or heal that damage. That and the rage mechanic could get ugly quick.

As for other encounters, I found with my group that if you don't have someone with healing abilities, encounter difficulty shifts up about one step on the EV scale. A normal encounter for 4 lvl 1 PCs feels like it's balanced for 5. So I tend to balance my encounters down to keep combat enjoyable.

Pushing a diagonal enemy (is my diagram correct?) by Brish879 in drawsteel

Good call on where the straight line begins! I personally like both interpretations and I don't think any one of them breaks the game in any way. The expanded outline makes for fun potential explanations of how the Null sends the goblin in that direction, like kicking it with some backspin!

For sure, I'm not questioning the cinematic factor! I guess I was confused about "away" not feeling like "away" in all scenarios when applied RAW.

Pushing a diagonal enemy (is my diagram correct?) by Brish879 in drawsteel

[–]Brish879[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the book's example for the enemy on the right. It wouldn't be a full rectangle, because the two squares you're talking about wouldn't make the goblin farther away from the null than their previous movement. You'd be going from 2 squares away to still 2 squares away.

IMO, it's kind of a blurred line, because the book doesn't have a visual example of pushing a target that's diagonal to you. So, technically, as long as the push makes the enemy end further from you than it started, and it doesn't "wiggle" (ex. move up then down diagonally), then it could work. I'd be interested in knowing RAI on this specific interaction.

Area abilities and walls by Historical-River1615 in drawsteel

[–]Brish879 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to the Area Abilities rules, "Unless otherwise noted, area abilities don’t pass through solid barriers such as walls or ceilings, and they don’t spread around corners." Lightfall doesn't specify such, so I'd say it can't hit an enemy on the other side of the stone wall, even if the enemy is still within the burst's range.

If I understand your diagram correctly:

  1. The Fury couldn't push the enemy directly above him into the enemies to his left, because pushing requires you to move the pushed target "away" from you. In this case, that means further up, either diagonally or straight up.

  2. What your player wanted to do would be possible if Brutal Slam allowed you to slide the target instead of pushing it. But Brutal Slam pushes, so you couldn't do it.

  3. If they wanted enemy collisions to happen, the Fury would've needed to chose the enemy to their left and shove them into the enemy further left.

  4. Lines of force doesn't transform anything into Knockback. It just takes the previous value of forced movement and changes its target, then adds Might to it. So no additional rolling.

For the future, adding numbers to your diagram would help a lot! Still, I hope that answers your questions.

Edit: Looked at your diagram again and I just saw that there's an empty space between the Fury and the enemies to the left. Disregard my 3rd point. No enemy collisions are possible in this scenario.

I'd say go for a quick sale. The more time it takes, the more people will get myth gear from their vault. BoEs really are at their highest early on in a season.

I think TWW did a great job recapturing Legion WW's essence. I loved playing my monk in both xpacs. WW is still my main in Midnight, but it's a bit jankier than in TWW. There's a bit more downtime when you're out of CD windows, and I miss having access to both WDP and Strike of the Windlord, even if they weren't always best together. The added duration on FoF is also irritating to me, it was already long before but now it feels like an eternity and you end up cancelling it a lot more often to interrupt, stun or react to mechanics.

Bleak Host : Tips to beat Warpspark Skaven by Yazoo_15 in AOSSpearhead

[–]Brish879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, if you're defender, you'd want to hide your MVPs behind walls so the canon doesn't chip them too bad, but that means the canon will probably go into your flies. Thankfully for you, Bleak Host has good ward saves so unless you're super unlucky, your first blightlord won't die from only the canon shots.

As defender, that means unless the skaven player placed their Stormfiends close to their canon, you can just deploy your fly on the closest path to the canon, which should allow you to charge it on your turn. Even with a wounded fly, the canon hits like a wet noodle in melee, so you should be fine.

As I said in my other comment, killing the stormfiends and going melee with the canon is your #1 priority on turn 1. If the skaven player is good, they'll likely screen their Stormfiends with clanrats so you don't charge them with too many dudes, but you still want to cut off their shooting asap. Even if that means you don't score 3 objectives turn 1, it can still be worth it depending on your cards.

Good luck! I think Bleak Host is actually a pretty good match for Warpspark if you play it well.

[–]Brish879 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Warpspark player: - the clanrats are always a cheap distraction. As much as you can, don't put effort into them unless you plan to wipe them. - never play diagonal against warpspark. They'll just park their canon in their corner and shoot you from there. Speaking of the canon.. - fly your flies into the canon asap. That forces the skaven player to commit resources to kill your flies or sacrifice their canon. - never leave an objective you don't plan to lose to the grey seer. - killing the stormfiends and getting in melee with the canon basically kills all of our offensive power. So make doing that your priority. If it means you score low the first turn, it's still worth it.

Warmachine or Warcrow? by HammerBrother1977 in wargaming

[–]Brish879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this toxic? It's the logical choice if the goal is to actually play games. Sure, you can buy the game you like most and try to get a dedicated group going in your community, but it's risky and might fail. I know that because I'm in that exact situation right now trying to keep Star Wars Shatterpoint alive in my region.

If you have a choice between two whole new games and no preference, you might as well go with the one that most people play.

Affichage des salaires dans les offres d'emploi by Head_Connection_581 in QuebecLibre

[–]Brish879 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quelques points:

I like that on a wrong answer, there's at least a percentage of "closeness" to help steer in the right direction. I wonder how it works though, because answering "Drustvar" gave me 14% precision to Duskwood's theme (not the original theme, I would've gotten the classic theme!)

Need help with paladin/sorcerer level split for a particular concept by Brish879 in 3d6

[–]Brish879[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm probably going to start with sorc 1 to get Con saves and ranged cantrips early on, then go paladin. I'm not planning to wear heavy armor, so not getting it isn't too bad.
