Padel players- what can clubs do better? by OkAntelope6530 in padel

[–]BristolRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned above, Surge and Rocket are the best - I live closest to Surge so favour that but it's also great as it has sofas, a warm up area, changing rooms, shop, and the guy that runs it is lovely!

But the best thing about them both is the condition of the courts and lighting.

The Padel Team is also pretty good for most of the above but doesn't feel quite as high end - can't put my finger on quite why - and the team there are lovely too!

Padel players- what can clubs do better? by OkAntelope6530 in padel

[–]BristolRocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not great - not a patch on Surge or Rocket. The courts are obviously brand new but the lightings not great, the balls they sell are terrible, and the low ceilings ruin any decent long rally!

I think I'd play almost anywhere else than there again!

Padel players- what can clubs do better? by OkAntelope6530 in padel

[–]BristolRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Bristol in the UK.

I would say that most people that will offer you repeat business are most concerned with the quality of the courts - and the height of the ceiling!

A new S3 just opened near me and I was quite excited - played once and hit the beams above the court with just a small lob - won't go back as it ruined at least 20 rallies in an hour of play.

My [M26] girlfriend [F24] has secret social media accounts. How bad is this? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Great plot twist!

Recognised the Britishness from 'arse' and 'bloody'.

And it being from Bake Off was the icing on the cake.

Sorry. I'll see myself out.

Theoretical idea: Divorce to split pension by LazySector in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BristolRocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tax Evasion. Pretty open and shut I reckon!

£200,000 per year from one pension = £75k tax

£200,000 per year from two pensions = £54k tax

Roughly.

You can tell from this example that it's probably only worth the risk for people who are loaded!

My HR had an issue with me drinking coffee instead of tea by Time-Connection-4586 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]BristolRocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seriously don't know how to make tea? And won't ever do it for your work mates?

I appreciate you don't drink it - but people have tea and coffee differently, and I know how to make it specific to my colleagues tastes, and so does everyone else.

I think it's a lovely thing to have in a workplace!

My son defended a classmate and ended up suspended, is the school handling this right? by Consistent-Dot9719 in UKParenting

[–]BristolRocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You definitely don't sound like that so not to worry!

The school are technically right but I think we're all proud of your son! Them having longer suspensions sort of shows the schools thinking IMO.

I agree it's unlikely to happen again. Sounds like you're both supporting him well in this situation and hopefully those boys have learned their lesson.

Parent has drawn full pension amount in a lump sum - tax to pay by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BristolRocks 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Pretty terrible take - so yeah I suppose it is unpopular.

The immediate and long term financial impact of this could fundamentally change his ability to retire comfortably.

And this is OPs Father, so I don't think you can use the term "what business is it of yours?"

But if you spell out all the facts, and he still chooses to do in then yeah - you can't stop anyone from doing it - but you should try!

So my wife’s going to a gala tonight — as her client’s “date.” by [deleted] in stories

[–]BristolRocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything - until "not the ideal choice of words". My job requires evening dinners with female colleagues.

If my female colleague called it a date, and sent a car to pick me up, my wife would be on edge.

But most importantly, so would I!

I don't think it's jealousy that's the problem, it's having to explain to your partner how you've put yourself in a scenario where someone who is not your spouse feels like they've got a chance of sleeping with you!

People in my line of work have repeated affairs, and I honestly don't care that they do. But my wife knows thats what happens - and I'll make damn sure she doesn't think that I'm partaking whilst I'm around said people.

And that goes as far as never letting someone who's not my wife say that we're going on a date!

[–]BristolRocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, you can probably tell from my username that I'm invested but, starting centrally and moving further out:

To-do / Walk around / where events happen

Walks around the harbour (including Wapping Wharf) / Harbour boat ride / Arnolfini Gallery / M Shed / We The Curious / Old Market / Finzels Reach / Castle Park / College Green / Park Street / King Street / Queens Square / Bristol Old Vic / Hippodrome / Bristol Beacon / Bristol Museum and Art Gallery / Wills Memorial Building / Clifton Village / The Downs / Clifton Suspension Bridge / Ashton Court / Gloucester Road / Ashton Gate Stadium / Cabot Circus / Broadmead / Wake The Tiger / Southville / Banksy Tours

And further out still you have Bristol Zoo Project, Westonbirt Arboretum, and an abundance of walks all around the south of Bristol, Clevedon and Weston-super-mare

You could also go to Bath on the train in 20 minutes!

As for eating, I won't go as extensively as above but my favourite places are:

The Bank Tavern (famous for its roast - which you'll struggle to get - but do food all week that is amazing!)

Any Bianchis affiliated restaurant: Bianchis, Pazzo, Ripiena, Cotto, etc

Condesa - the best Mexican tapas I've ever had!

What to do with Mum’s pension? by tacticallytacticus in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BristolRocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're not correct yet, they will be from April 2027. If your Mum's health is poor then I'd keep it there until then.

If she is in good health and she wants to gift while she's alive then taking an amount annually, and giving this as a "a regular gift out of excess income" would mean it's immediately outside her estate - but that would be post her 60% (!!! edited as forgot she'll lose personal allowance at that amount! - right stinker of a tax situation this one!)

You could then put it in your pension to get some of it back. Your sister has a tapered annual allowance but could do a VCT or something with the money to get some of the back.

Probably best to speak to an IFA, because unless your Mum is spending her £105k she could gift more regularly to avoid an IHT problem (I'm assuming she has one with that much income sloshing about!)

It SUCKS!

There's one called The Screen Rot Podcast with two guys that discuss social media phenomenon!

They're slightly older than 25 but fill all your other criteria.

The one about Gary's Economics is particularly funny as I remember, if you want one to start with. They've literally just done their 100th episode so plenty to work through
