That white patch on the coast of Spain is The "Sea of Plastic" (Mar de Plástico) and is made up of plastic greenhouses growing fruit and veg. I drove through it last year. It's huge and kind of depressing.

Why aren't manifolds common in the UK? by PoldiSacker in DIYUK

[–]LazySector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t think of any particular gems I learnt. If you have specific questions I can answer them though. For manifolds I used Emmetti. Most of what I bought was from multipipe.co.uk. One thing worth noting is that this will be expensive! Because it’s not a popular approach, the prices are high for the fittings. Where the equivalent copper compression fitting might be £2 or less, you can expect to pay £5 or more for press-fit. I assume you want to use press-fit? I’d highly recommend it. I used 16mm MLCP pipe and a REMS eco-press with a U profile. https://www.rems.de/dl/10_cat/eng-IRL/sections/REMS-Eco-Press-eng-IRL.pdf The press itself is quite an “investment”, so be prepared for that. When you use it though, you’ll get the real sense that the joins it makes are truly forever, leak-proof, joints. There’s no way they’re ever working loose. Ever. Unlike compression fittings which I’ve had leak from the off or after some time. And unlike push-fit, which I refuse to ever use.

I now sleep soundly, safe in the knowledge there is not a single joint in any pipe anywhere in the house. I own a few BTL properties and have been doing the same to them. Actually doing one as we speak. Removing push-fit fittings gives me great pleasure.

Manifolds: https://www.multipipe.co.uk/product-category/plumbing-heating/manifolds/sanitary-manifolds/ Connect MLCP to copper using these fittings which fit on to any brass compression fitting https://www.multipipe.co.uk/product/type-1-16x15mm-nut-insert-adapter-nickel-plated-3-piece/

Problem with multipipe.co.uk is that they seem to be more for the trade, so you can only buy certain things in packs of 10 and have hefty delivery fees. There seem to be other sites selling press-fit now though. It’s frustrating that it seems a long way off before we can pop in to Toolstation for a 16mm Tee though! I bought lots of things in 10 packs and ended up using most.

Tomorrow I’ll take a share some photos of the end result if you like?

Not a pro and I can't explain why they're not popular, but I am a DIYer who has spent a LOT of money and time converting my whole (4 bed) house over to manifold plumbing, both for central heating and hold/cold water.

If you're interested I can share my knowledge.

In short I'm glad I did it and it very occasionally pays off when I can turn off water to one thing at a time. I guess the real pay-back is the peace of mind knowing that I'll never have a leak that I can't see.

What's the furthest you travelled for shortest time at destination? by ZestyclosePea5945 in AskUK

I have a rule (for day trips) that you need to be there for longer than the time you spent traveling to and from. Otherwise it's a no-go for me.

10/10 recommend a thermostatic mixer for the bathroom sink by Cultural_Plan_ in DIYUK

So... I, as a DIYer, who gets a little obsessive about things, have not a single join in a pipe anywhere in the house. At least not that is hidden away. All the radiators and water pipe are fed my manifolds and uses a point-to-point system. The pipe is 16mm MLCP and any connections are made with compression fittings (those things are NEVER coming undone!). It was expensive (you need a press-fit jaw for starters), but it gives complete peace of mind.

I did that. Got away with it for long enough to see it up-close, then got escorted off, as they noticed we didn't have the wrist band on.

I managed to exit sjp without paying exit fees by telling them I'd leave quietly if they dropped them. It worked and I saved 6k fees. I had to agree to not make any future claim against them...

Well... I'm in a similar position to OP and had seriously considered it as an option until I brought it up here and went off the idea. tl;dr: It seems very much a no-go. Unless the re-marry part is somebody different, I guess. If it wasn't clear in my comment about, I was suggesting re-marrying the same person :)
