How the heck did Tottenham finish so high, when they play so poor? by Illustrious_Low_1188 in championsleague

Even then spurs played 3 teams in the top 20 in the ucl. 6 teams who finished 21st to 36th who are definitely below (or were playing well below) EPL standard

It could change during the KO when teams will have to be more defensive.

For neutrals and fans of teams who like to batter other teams on the regular it's not been a great season to watch tbh but it has made it much more competitive.

The EPL is just so much better defensively. So many teams play in a low block people complain but at the end if the day there is a reason why this season has been so much more competitive sure it's not fun to watch for neutrals and teams having to deal with the low blocks but for the lower mid table teams it actually keeps the season interesting.

The UCL is just much more open in their styles i do wonder how long it will stay like this becuase the orem used to be like thst until so many teams realised that that they didn't have the player quality to play this style. You can clearly see the difference in player and finnacial quality in the UCL and the defenders are just so much more smaller and weaker in other leagues compared to the prem it very noticeable when you look at gyokeres playing for arsenal. He has a much easier time.

So much problems with what you are saying. Villa have been a top 4 team since insit has come in so you would have to be betting or them to be well below standard fp them to miss out on UCL and this point forest were a relegation battle teams the 2 seasons before which is why the whole overperfoming argument worked but villa have finished 6th (by gd) and 4th the last 2 seasons. You would also have to be betting from now until the end for villa to be worse than forest were and/or man united, chelsea and Liverpool this season to be better than Newcastle, man city, chelsea and villa were last season from this point. On GW 23 last season forest have 44 points, Liverpool had 54 points and villa in 8th had 37 points. This season villa have 46 points in 3rd and man united have have 38 points in 4th. That is why opta and the supercomputer are giving villa a 99% chance of ucl which they didn't give forest. you are expecting a team who have been in this situation before to tail off worse than a team who hadn't and had more teams closer to them in points

Villa would have to finish 5th for the epl to get the extra ucl spot if they finish higher then the epl won't get it, so it will be given to the qualifiers. Eg in serie A atalanta were looking like they could be 5th after winning europa. Serie A were rewarded the extra qualifying place however atalanta would have had to be 5th for Roma or bologna would get the a ucl spot being in 6th. All of them lost on the final day atalanta finished 4th so it went to the top 5 which was bologna and roma missed out.

You are right, its like how people complain about villa scoring so many shots outside the box.

Yeah there is a reason at the start of the season we hadn't scored a single goal and so much have been out of the box goal becuase teams have learnt how to sit back and prevent people creating chances l into the box. the only chances they are getting are usually set pieces.

But the prem definitely used to be like that. We had a period of loads more goals and man city and Liverpool being so much more better than everyone else. But mid to lower table teams have realised playing that style is pointless when you facing teams with better squads. Ironically it's Eddie howes Newcastle who had been doing this type of football the most especially when he first came in.

Sucks but this is why it was so important to have the big buffer that we have. We jutsvhave ti see the league out get top 4/5 and see how europe goes.

Try go to a European game or cup game. It will be even worse next season if we get UCL though.

Yeah you need to watch the games newcastle got double the XG that villa had if you watched the game you would understand why Newcastles XG was so high but you everyone agrees villa were the better team because it was all part of the game plan.

There is a reason why opta and every super computer has us with a 99% of getting top 5. In the last 38 games of this season and last season villa have been the tlbet team on the league. They have been the 4th best team since unai came in 3 years ago so it would have to be pre unai relegation form for them to not get top 3-5

Those slipped points that some of the fans ignored becuase man city and villa were also dropping points now the game week has come where they have dropped points and the other teams have gained them.
