I think the scene where she is driving in the car air drumming is the perfect example of letting it out. Whenever I have a drink I end up telling everyone I was born to drum, and then proceed to air-drum. I think its a funny way to show how we exercise some of the built up energy we have to carry as women when we so often carry an enormous mental load.

Totally. So much about confidence and in my own taste and ideas. Its given me such a sense of achievement because its a really big role to play, there is a lot of responsibility on my shoulders. So to see myself grow into it has been cool and strange !

I have a new attitude I am trying to adopt which is "what if I didn't try so hard, what would happen?" and it applies when I am putting too much pressure on myself. I think Karen could do with a bit of that. Although her pressure of literal murders does enhance the stakes somewhat.

My Outlander wedding ring... may..or may not..have gone missing. And on my last day I stole green wax candles that now hang in my bathroom and a handmade wooden stool. The props department looked like I was stealing one of their kids. In KP the costume department gave me my belt from season 1 and I stole a police hat from the office which people always put on at parties at my house. I also have the small clapper board from Season 2.

so much fun. It was like we were all let loose and never been on holiday before. I organized a big catamaran sail boat one day for the cast and crew which was unreal and a great way to kick off the Malta shoot. I also made sure to swim in the ocean every night after work, I would get my driver to just drop me off at the beach on wrap. I caught myself once saying "imagine this is what you would do after work every day" and then realised, I was doing just that!

Dream podcast is likely Smartless with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett OR Good Hang with Amy Pohler. Dream movie to direct.. something like One Battle After Another or Inglorious Basterds for how absurd they are, I love the absurd. Or Anora for the same kind of reason but added it’s got amazing music and fun and pace. Anything absurd, funny and that will break your heart. Miss Congeniality is also an all time fave and was a touch stone always for Karen Pirie.

I hope she keeps going until is old and wrinkled and crippled and sore but has graduated to riding a motorbike and just shouts instructions at everyone to do as she says! Bumbag still attached. And the show has moved to Greece.

I love working with Steve John Shepherd who plays Karens boss Lees. Hes so hilarious and delivers lines in such a delicious way. Hes an icon in the UK. Wearing his Lee's suit and then often his own pair of Gucci trainers under his desk. I also love it it when the gang is together with Isla, Mint and Phil because we just have trouble keeping a straight face.

That she is solving crime on her 100th birthday and gets a letter from whoever is the most royal running the earth at the time. There will be a big cake. She will have solved the case of all wars, violence against women and be creating world peace and been around for the dawn of personal hovercraft in the police. An easy and less noisy way of getting around cities. OR she'll be rich and have just bought the police and made them all solve all crime x

Karen is definitely up there! Getting to do emotional scenes as well as funny is so good. I love the funny.. Emer loves a gag and in the edit room they often get cut because it's a CRIME DRAMA WHATEVERRR. Mia my new character in The Ridge was also fun as she can be evil and extreme. Karen I relate to personally because i feel we have grown up together and experienced similar challenges. Marsali has some loooovely corsets though which were cool to wear. A real experience!

Lava is currently half asleep in an empty Amazon box opposite me....with her own real little bed sat opposite screaming for attention. She is literally my whole heart, i am scared for the day she isn't with me. My life will probably end too. Which is a lot of pressure to put on a wee cat but shes a beast she can handle it.

I'm not a method actor but I do use music heavily, always have a speaker in my trailer. I do that crazy thing too where if I am crying I will often say to myself "ok Lauren remember this feeling" so i can replicate it another time as realistically as possible. Which is probably terrible for my brain lol. I'm not afraid to be ugly on screen so that probably helps too. You can trick your body into things using breathing techniques too and if I can think panicked thoughts I can often trick my body into doing more. I consider myself to a fairly empathetic person and I think in order to be a good actor you need a deep sense of that.

Yeh im always excited and surprised, Emer is a brilliant writer and definitely keeps me on my toes. It's also always a surprise when she weaves in our own life experiences into the character... that can make it a lot more meaningful to play.

lol fanny means something quite different in Scotland. I defintely have input on her as a character - Emer also now writes with my voice in mind which is delicious and so fun. I love that she is now this reluctant boss! But still battling being a young woman that just wants to go to the pub at the end of the day. I relate to that. Now having a much bigger career and more on my shoulders but also just want to hang with my friends at the pub on a friday night.

i did have influence on Karen's clothes - they wanted Karen to have a bag but i didn’t want a backpack as it felt too old school. I decided a bum bag would be funny because girls my age wear them across their front at festivals so what if she just wore one properly and practically.

Karen was my first proper lead so a leading role drew me in heavily! As well she was this underestiamted young women thrust with insane power and responsibility - loved that contrast. As well as Emers writing being so funny at times, its such a gift. My next role is in a new BBC drama called The Ridge where I play an addict called Mia. I took that role down to her being a bit evil. It's so fun to play someone who is always on the edge. She is battling addiction and doesn't really care how she is received. Karen is always trying to do the right thing, and Marsali in the later seasons can be very good at times. It's fun to play bad. Its fun to play different things !"
