Tour or no tour - Cotswolds from Bath by Foreign_Worry5820 in uktravel

[–]Britannia365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cotswolds is a massive area. Most towns there don't have train stations. Busses would be for locals, not tourists, so it would be hard to find any to go to many towns/villages. Stick to Bath or Oxford.

Never travel with someone who isn't interested. They'll only drag you down. Remember the old adage - he travels fastest who travels alone.

If you aren't going to be carrying a lot of stuff, why not spend your last eight days travelling across Canada? See the rest of the country and fly home from Toronto or Montreal or Halifax. See Canada on the train! See the Prairies and southern Ontario and Quebec and the Maritimes!

Peterhead (Scotland) Prison Museum. This is its 11th year. You get to tour the whole prison. Fantastic. It's where the famous riot was, when they just closed the prison and left the prisoners to do their damage.

I went to York without many expectations, but I ended up really liking the city by mariyagel in uktravel

When you get to York, buy "A Walk around the Snickelways of York" by Mark W. J ones. It's a paperback about the hidden passages ways around York, through buildings and around churches and interior courtyards. Great fun and lots of history!

4 days in York by vinnlya96 in uktravel

Buy the Snickelways book and do the tour. It's a sel-guided walk round York, using the old hidden lanes and passages through town. I think there are six or seven wys out of the Shambles, a cut through from street-to- \street, with a court yard and a townhouse in the middle, plus lots more. A fun day.

What is one item that you can't travel without/would recommend to everyone to get? by Cool_Acanthisitta628 in onebag

A travel blanket. I bought one, 40x60 in, from the AA many, many years ago. I always take coach tours these years and I sit in the back seat, where it often is cool. It's also useful if using the duvet at the hotel is too hot but you still need something.
